Devils -- The flu bug seems to be running rampant through the team right now, which might explain why forwards Jamie Langenbrunner (one goal in 15 games), Rob Niedermayer (one goal in 21 games) and Jay Pandolfo (no goals in 15 games) are struggling so mightily. Langenbrunner actually sat out the third period of Tuesday's loss to the Leafs, but, according to general manager Lou Lamoriello, is expected to play on Friday. It's still uncertain whether or not Kovalchuk will be in the lineup against Toronto.
Just in case no one has seen this....
The lion and the tiger may be more powerful, but the wolf doesn't perform in the circus.

Hearing more and more ILYA may certainly be a no go tonight in the swamp...Hearing they may wait to debut him in Madison Square Garden Saturday night to use that as a lift for the 2nd game of their B2B......Just hearing that from a buddy of mine who lives in Jersey I was on the phone with so just his two cents nothing more....I would be surprised if he does not play...

I would be more concerned with the flu bug than with Kovalchuk playing or not cause from what they offered last game out they will need a lot more than him to score some goals....

The element of this discussion that throws me off a bit is that this is still the Leafs. This team sucks.
Despite the addition of Phaneuf, which might be exciting for fans of that team, the game Giguere gave them the other night stands in stark contrast the majority of his crap outings over the last few seasons. Now that he's playing behind an even worse defense in Toronto, and sure to get less goal support, I'm fairly certain that game the other night was nothing but a fluke.
Let's also consider that a team with little offensive talent just gave away a ton of their production to get Phaneuf. The future may be brighters, and they used the deal to get a nice energy boost in the last game, but this roster is still terrible. Flu bug or no flu bug, New Jersey would beat this team 4 out of 5 times, and I wouldn't think there's much of a chance TO wins back to back.
I think maybe some Lefs fans are DRAMATICALLY overreacting to that little energy boost the other night.

Agreed but who is on the LEAFS?? Have not really seen anyone on Toronto tonight aside from a couple of people playing small in the forum....I just see everyone on Jersey and I agree they SHOULD get it done tonight...Leafs already just took 3 of a possible 4 points to Jerseys 2 points in the 2 games they just played...One would think Jersey could get their shit together for a game and handle the Leafs properly on the THIRD TRY....

NHL.COM and Fire and Ice confirm Kovalchuk will play tonight...
Can't wait to see the debut....He should be good for a goal or too on the Laughers however he is also entertaining as he will surely be responsible for giving a goal to the Leafs as he is a massive defensive liability....Can't wait to see how his lack of defensive effort plays out in Lou's World in the long run....
