reg. (+11.78); 11-9 totals (+0.94); 1-2 team totals (-1.18); 5-13
overtime (+2.08)
January is here after a very profitable December winning 22.77 units. Good luck to you all.
Carolina money line incl. ot +159 - The Hurricanes came up short on New Year's eve as they lost 2:1, and now the odds are heavily slanted in the Rangers favor because of Carolina's awful road record. Carolina however picked up some confidence on the road outhustling the Capitals. They have a better chance than the +159 offered to pick up their 3rd road victory. The Rangers have lost 10 of their last 12 home games.
Vancouver money line incl. ot +117 - The Canucks rallied back on New Year's eve from a 3 goal deficit to the Blues to pick up the victory in overtime. Dallas meanwhile has won 2 in a row scoring 5 goals in each game, but the opponent has also scored 3, 4, and 4 goals in the Stars latest games. The Canucks have allowed only 1.60 goals in their last 5 games. Vancouver has won 6 of the last 11 meetings. The Stars' 5 wins against the Canucks during these meetings have all been by 1 goal. This looks like a very close contest with the slightest edge going to the Canucks.
Tampa Bay money line incl. ot +134 - Tampa Bay has 4 wins in their last 6 games. Pittsburgh has dropped 4 of their last 5 games. Both teams are scoring the same amount of goals in their most recent games with Tampa Bay being slightly better in goals against. On the season, Pittsburgh is scoring 2.60 goals while allowing 2.85 goals on the road. The Lightning are averaging 2.68 goals for and 2.26 goals against at home. Tampa Bay has a better shot than they're given credit for.
Tampa Bay - Pittsburgh goes to overtime +320- Close game.
Colorado money line incl. ot +122 - The Avalanche came up short New Year's Eve in Detroit after picking up a win in Ottawa, but they are in far better shape than Columbus. The Jackets have tapped out at 1 goal in each of their last 5 games and have recorded only 3 wins their last 22 games. Colorado won both meeting this year including a 5:2 result 2 weeks ago.
Columbus - Colorado goes to overtime +320- Close game. Columbus has gone to overtime in their last 3 games.
Calgary reg. -0.5 +100 - The
Flames aren't scoring much, but they've won 3 games in a row. Toronto
isn't scoring much either and they've surrendered 3 goals per game in
their last 5 while allowing 4 goals on 11 power play chances. On the
road, the Maple Leafs allow 3.76 goals per game while Calgary allows
2.70 goals per game at home. The Flames won the meeting earlier this
year 5:2 in Toronto. Calgary in regulation looks the likely winner.
NY Islanders reg -0.5 +116- Atlanta blew a 3:0 lead last night to drop their 7th game in a row. This looks like a very difficult spot for the slumping Thrashers as they travel to face an Islander team which has 3 wins in their last 5 games. The Islanders haven't allowed a power play goal during this stretch and have allowed only 1.60 goals. In Atlanta's last 5 games, they have allowed 4.20 goals The Islanders have defeated Atlanta 6:3 in New York in November and 4:1 in Atlanta early in December.
Phoenix - Detroit under 5 +111 - The Coyotes 10 game winning streak at home came to an end New Year's Eve as the red hot Sharks picked up a 3:2 shootout over Phoenix once again. Detroit meanwhile shaked a slump winning 4:2 over the Avalanche. The Red Wings are averaging only 1.20 goals per game in their last 5 while Phoenix is averaging 2.60 goals. Detroit is allowing 2 goals per game and Phoenix is allowing 1.60 goals against during their last 5 as well. I can't see either team hitting 4 goals.
Chicago reg. -0.5 +108- The Blackhawks obliterated New Jersey 5:1 on New Year's Eve while the Blues continued their poor play by blowing a 3:0 lead to Vancouver, eventually bowing to the Canucks in overtime. The Blackhawks are averaging 4 goals for and 2.20 goals against in their last 5 while St. Louis is allowing 3.60 goals against. At home, the Blues are allowing 3.18 goals per game while the Blackhawks have been stellar defensively on the road allowing only 1.76 goals per game. Chicago won 3:0 in the only meeting this season.
San Jose reg. -0.5 -162 - The Sharks have won 7 games in a row, their latest win ending the Coyotes 10 game home winning streak. During the winning streak, San Jose is averaging 3.57 goals per game while allowing 1.86 goals. The Sharks haven't allowed a power play goal in their last 5 games by killing off all 24 power plays. Edmonton has dropped 7 of their last 8 games and in their last 5 games they've managed only 1.40 goals for. I see the Sharks winning in regulation as at least a 2:1 ratio.

depressed love your picks, as always. Will tail on several. A few thoughts:
- Is +$160 really enough of a payout to take a 2 win road team whose already been beaten by the Rags twice in the last month, in Carolina? I can appreciate the Canes played better in the last few games, but this still feels like a big gamble for $160.
- Do you really see the Pens losing 4 in a row?
- Why no Colorado? They look like a good value today to me. As does their under. Thoughts?

Most Blues fans have been calling for AM to get fired for a long time. Now maybe they'll bring in someone who will let the kids skate, stop thinking so much and just play.

As bad as Carolina has been on the road, the Rangers have shown nothing at home losing 10 of their last 12 games there so to install them as -160 favorites is ridiculous. Both matchups this year have been close games. Carolina is a team I'm looking to back in January as the odds available should turn a profit. We'll see.
I can see any team losing 4 in a row. When a team struggles, the struggles come in bunches. Who would have thought San Jose would lose 4 in a row at home? They were -220, -150, -200, and -180 in those games. Pittsburgh is laying too much on the road tonight. The odds for the Lightning are better now than the odds I got last night.
I am on Colorado. Check the 5th pick down. Under looks solid too.
