#1 Posted: 4/22/2009 10:06:04 AM i debated with myself whether or not to post this because i am fearful the ranger fans and devil fans will hijack this thread and turn it into a bitching contest, but I have decided to open this up for discussion hoping it won't happen.
i have always felt like Henrik Lundqvist is one of the more overated goalies in the NHL to begin with. So after reading game wrap-ups after game 2 & 3 it further drove home my point.
The game 2 wrap-up suggested Henrik was amazing and that the only reason the rangers won that game was because of his amazing goaltending. Then I read game 3 and it suggesting the Henrik had no chance on any of the goals and the reason the rangers lost was because of the piss poor performance by the defence.
The love fest the media has with this guy is sickening, when the rangers win it is because Henrik Lundqvist is an amazing goaltender who is top 3 in the league and when the rangers lose it is because the defence in front of him played horribly and he had no chance.
I just think that Henrik Lundqvist is overated and not even a top 5 goaltender in the league. His numbers benefit from playing in a system with a strong defense that keeps shots to the outside and clogs the middle preventing the cross-ice pass (which I believe is his biggest weakness, moving side to side.) I think he would have a GAA above 3 if he had to go play for a team like Buffalo or Atlanta, that doesn't play good defense.
So do you agree or disagree and if you disagree who is your most overated goalie in the NHL?

#16 Posted: 4/22/2009 10:37:07 AM 1,2. Brodeur
2,1. Luongo
3. Ozzy
4. Ward
5. Turco
6. Fluery
7. Thomas
8. Mason
9. Miller
10. Dipietro
My list is North American bias but Brodeur and Luongo not much of a difference. They are by far hands down the two best in the world anyday. They can win a series themselves. Ozzy and Ward plus Turco up there because they have done what the rest have not that's won Lord Stanley that's what makes you a top 10 goalie in the playoffs i think.

LMAO dude are you serious! You're talking about defensive systems and you have Backstrom who plays under Jacques Lemaire, do some research.

i will explain this to you once and then i don't want to hear from you anymore.
Ricky plays on the shitest team in the east, he has no support from either the offense or the defense. yet in the 3 seasons he has played since the lockout he has still managed to collect 30 + wins twice while never starting more than 63 games a season. in those three seasons he has had a save percentage no lower than .900 .
so to wrap-up he has the worst team in the league in front of him and he still managed over a .500 winning percentage and over a .900 save percentage. I have seen the guy play put him with a good team and he would be seen by all as maybe even top 5. |

i understand they play a defensive system up there, but he is still an elite goalie, just like they play a defensive system in new jersey, brodeur is still an elite goalie. |

First of all, Dipietro played on 5 games so please don't even count this year. The last 2 seasons the islanders were not the worst team, even making the playoffs 2 years ago. Dipietro cant stay healthy and since when is just over .900 SV% good! Stop judging goalies based on Def bcause look at osgood with lidstrom, raflalski, kronwall infront of him he still cant save a puck. Don't invole my family in this you ibicile, i never insulted your family or you. I will report you.

#22 Posted: 4/22/2009 10:51:13 AM Thanks sean2114 your list i agree with all except Backstrom only because he plays in Minni and under Lemaire. You are right on about Lundqvist he is not a top 5 or top 10 goalie in the league. Guys who were hurt like Miller in Buffalo are great goalie to when he plays. You put Miller in Detriot he wins 50 plus a year. |

i am not counting this year, let me explain this so you can understand.
2005-2006 was the first year back from the lockout (1 of the 3 seasons i am counting for ricky)
2006-2007 was the second year back from the lockout (2 of the 3 seasons i am counting for ricky)
2007-2008 was the third year back from the lockout (3 of the 3 seasons i am counting for ricky )
the islanders made the playoffs because ricky got them there, i mean he did have jason blake as his leading scoring, he is a star isn't he. |
