#5 Posted: 2/23/2009 11:04:45 AM Both players are great. And both have different styles. If I had to choose it'd be Ovechkin.
When discussing Ovechkin's style of play the term "Raw Power" comes to mind. The guy gives it his all and simply does not quit. Talk about hustle. Speed and power with amazing hands and focus. The guy shoots the puck more than anyone else in the league.
Crosby is more of a thinking mans hockey player. Incredible vision, and can make any pass to anyone at almost any time. He makes people around him better. The guy has tree sized legs and has crazy acceleration. And just like Ovechkin he has amazing hands.
Both are amazing hockey talents. But the reasn I chose Ovechkin is simple. Crosby's drawback in my opinion is his temper. His fierce competitiveness creates a lack of patience. And his obvious frustration rarely leads to positive results.
Sometimes during a game when things are not going according to plan and Crosby starts talking to the refs after every play to complain about the calls being made. When this happens you know the Pens are in serious trouble. The opposing team knows this as well.
And yet even with the drawbacks he is still right up there with Ovechkin. |

#9 Posted: 2/23/2009 12:25:34 PM People don't like Crosby that much because he has been thrown in our faces for year's now.....
Ovechkin had the luxury at the start of not having to deal with the media 24 hours a day, every day like Sid has... That is a very difficult and trying task....
Also, Sid the Kid doe's not have the cast of player's that Ovechkin has this year.... Ovechkin is the better goal scorerd as is obvious.....
Sid has very little to work with and Pitt's organization screwed themselves this year.... It was Sid and the Pen's in the final's last year and if you remember, with 2 seconds left, that puck got behind Osgood...Unfortunately, it hit the post instead of moving over 1/2 inch to the left..... HOW COME NOBODY SAW THAT....???
I am not a Pitts fan... But don't think if Sid wasn't on Washington with their offensive minded cast, he wouldn't be higher in the points and goal's department.... |

Just so you know, that last shot in the finals never hit the post! I went through the crease and never hit anything. As for Crosby vs Ovechkin: What makes Ovechkin FAR better than Crosby isn't the goal scoring or the points (which he is much better than Syd). What makes Ovechkin better is the fact that he will also put you THROUGH the boards. Ovechkin plays with a bit of a mean streak and Crosby might as well put a skirt on. That's my opinion. |

#14 Posted: 2/23/2009 1:31:07 PM I remember that shot hitting the left post (to goaltender facing out) and coming out on his right side towards the boards... It was that close... You should look at it again....
All of a sudden, Crosby is not that good...? Rediculous if you ask me....He's supposed to carry the whole team..? Even more rediculous.... |

#16 Posted: 2/23/2009 1:53:43 PM The Great 8 is by far the better all around player. He leads in hits, shots on goal and goals scored! IMO he's your complete hockey player. He gets the team pumped and with Semin, Backstrom and Green on board he's gonna get even better.
Crosby is a cry baby lil bitch! He ain't gonna touch any of Gretz records. All that foolish talk when he first came into the league.
OVie would Crosby!

#20 Posted: 2/23/2009 2:59:34 PM First of all they are both amazing.
If there on their own I'd take ovechkin. however Crosby makes the team around him better. I'm not saying ovechkin doesn't but he's more of a lone wolf.

#21 Posted: 2/23/2009 3:29:37 PM I think they're even. People hate Crosby because he's been shoved in their face and the perception that he cries a lot. People need to understand just how competitive the guy is before they go blabbing about this.
They have different styles, Ovechkin scores goals, Crosby makes plays. They are about even in points so on that I don't think you can say one is better.
Ovechkin certainly appears to be the better hitter but can he take a hit? I don't care about the regular season I want to see him in a deep playoff run and see if he can sustain the hits and abuse. Crosby was raped in last years playoffs. They showed a montage at the end of the playoffs last year and the abuse and big hits he took was incredible. But he hung in there and never quit trying as hard as he could to keep his team in it, while Malkin folded like a tent. Let's see how Ovechkin reacts.
This may seem oicky as well but Ovechkin is a bit of a one dimensional player. He takes a ridiculous amount of bad shots when he should be passing or setting up teammates for better chances. Im not convinced he's a team player yet. He also ALWAYS shoots on the forehand because of his ridiculously curved stick. They've talked about this on the last few Caps games I've watched. It's a bit one dimensional and predictable because in crtain situations goalies can completely take away the threat of the backhand.
Both are great players but all these Ovechkin lovers and Crosby haters need to back up the train and realise they are probably both about the same.

Yes Ovechkin is awesome, but I'd take Crosby over #8. Don't get me wrong #8 is sick! but if I were a coach I'd be biting my lip every time he touches the puck, he's a mad man and I love it, but I worry about his longevity.
Crosby reminds me a little of #99 with a little Kurri in him.
Ovechkin reminds me a little of #66 with a little #8 (Neely) mixed in.

#24 Posted: 2/23/2009 4:21:02 PM For all the Sid haters (AO lovers) that think the NHL looks out for Sid ("the face of the NHL") and ignores AO, take an unbiased look at a game once and see how AO is protected by the NHL as they refuse to call charging/boarding/interference several times a game because they do not want to penalize one of their stars. |
