#1 Posted: 11/2/2007 10:57:18 AM Pretty new to this forum, but have been sports betting for 15 years. Results vary from year to year but overall have done ok. I found like most gamblers probably have that the more games you play, the more likely you will get hit by the House. Also, the lines that these oddsmakers set are just so tight sometimes. How many times have you lost by 1/2 a point. . .yada yada yada. So, for the past two years I swithced my bets strictly to money lines.
I set a weekly goal of $3000 a week by playing strictly ML plays, each play for a $1000. That means I try finding three BEST ML plays as high as -800. That's the highest ML price I will pay.
For example, last night I had the Suns at -700, so I laid $7000 to make $1000. I am +$2000 for the week so I am looking for one more game this week. Since these are high risk plays, I spend a LOT of time capping games that should WIN, period. I usually like playing home teams when betting on the ML but I am open to whatever play I feel will win.
Anyways, I have a starting bankroll of $50,000. You will need a high bank roll to play these ML. I know, one loss and you will be in the hole big. And of course, I have lost several big ML bets. However, once I do lose a ML bet, I go back and start betting the spread again until I can cut my losses or make it back.
The key is doing your homework and capping good teams, limit your picks, and waiting for your spots. I don't play everyday. But when I see a good spot I go for it.
Just for my personal record, I will start posting my plays here so I can track my record. And, yes you do have to have IRON BALLS to play some of these ML plays. But for the most part, if you cap correctly, high ML plays should hit 78% according to my record.
I have capped two plays for my last play of the week. It's either the Phoenix Suns -450 tonight or USC -7000 on Saturday. I am just doing some final capping and research to see which has the best chance of just winning the game.

I listen to Chris Bosh's interview on Raps TV last night and he even spoke about the revenge factor. This has been circled on their calender since the schedule came out. I will be betting the ML in this game but I wont be betting the amount you are. I believe there is a nice spot for a real good payoff.

I also play mostly MLs. Agree that the spread some times doesn't always work with a backdoor cover on a late TD or uncontested layup.
I look for the right spot with ML parlays, adding 1 to 4 teams to it. It adds to thr risk but if the team does lose, it reduces your loss.
I also look at cross sport ML parlays.
Looking at the Spurs tonight with maybe Ohio St./Kansas/Clemson. All those teams should win that game.
College BBall seems to be the best for the ML parlays as I did well in that last year. Not so good this year in college footbal as some big upsets came up.

Spurs -1600 is way too high for me. I don't go over a -800 on the ML. Anyways, I have completed my capping and research. I live in So Cal and follow the Lakers religiously. And I can tell you guys right now, the team is a mess. All the injuries they sustained really did not allow the starters to jell or play together during any pre-season games. In any of these Lakers games this year, if Kobe does not score 35+, they will no doubt lose. Besides Kobe, they have no other scoring option, period. Walton, Fisher, Kwame, etc???? Are you kidding me.

That ML parlay looks like money. Consider USC Saturday. They are -700 at home (it's homecoming for them) agaist Oregon St. I am almost sure they do not lose to the Beavers. |
