Yes, they just snagged Jordan from the Clippers. Outstanding.
But here are their losses:
Chandler (understandable given they got Jordan)
Ellis (erratic but that's a lot of scoring out the door)
Rondo (Had to go as well but who are they left with at the point? And remember they gave up Nelson, who could have helped now, along with some other pieces that could have contributed)
We'll answer that: Ray Felton and Devin Harris.
Barrea is not a guarantee to stay in the least and even if he stays, does any team fear him in the least?
But what about their other big splash: Wesley Matthews?
Well, you should read this before you get too excited about him:
Obviously, the Mavs have been the one of the biggest free agent 'winners' (and spenders, which grabs headlines) this offseason in terms of big signings.
That leads to positive public perception and consequently, big lines early on (much like the Cavs being a 12.5 pt favorite over the Knicks in Lebron's homecoming game where they lost on TNT).
We should see somewhat similar lines early for the Mavs and they may be a quite attractive fade given the above and the fact this team needs time to gel.
Just food for thought well before the season begins.

yep,not impressed by wat theyve got at all....yea,jordan can only help but he's not taking them to the next level and i dont even think he'll be near the player he was with the clippers..that environment and roster allowed him to thrive and max out his potential i believe...hes very effective in the role he can play but he has no great upside and the guy is seriously kidding himself if he thinks he mite "blossom" in dallas..does anyone seriously believe he'll be anything even close to a "featured" part of their offense??...its baffling to me the mindset he has, appearing to see "greener pastures"..i understand there was a personality clash with paul but if ya wanna win ya gotta suck it up and put that shiit aside...with the clippers jordan had a solid chance to advance deep, maybe very, very deep in the west.now the move just leaves both teams in a fairly mediocre,under-whelming state as presently constituted.
i hear a lot of people picking the mavericks as a sneaky dark horse the past cupple of seasons and expect the same again but i just dont see it......time will show and i may be proven completely wrong but i cant see dallas moving past the second round at absolute best.

That's just the thing Melos: squares will be clamoring to take Dallas early thinking their immensely improved, but there will be little doubt the Mavs lines, particularly at home, will be larger than smaller, providing value.
Jordan? Well, we'll see how he's now 'the man' when he has Devin Harris handling his alley-oops.
Nice to see Dallas has a dominant post-presence that they have lacked throughout the years but Jordan's massive FG% on offense was largely dependent on, the obvious, that is, Paul and Blake who played beside him.

I go to a few Mavs games a year, that doesn't make me an authority on the team but I follow them. Cuban just wanted to get someone to excite the fans as everyone spurns us since the title. I am with Scal. I think Jordan was largely a product of his environment in LA, I like Dallas but I'm not a ball player I have no clue why he'd want to be the main man (and get less $ ?!?!) here when his entire offensive game is contingent on there being better guys on his team out on the court who get him easy lobs, of course we are signing Jeremy Lin so that may make life easy for Jordan . I am also worried about Matthews injury. There's a reason the Blazers, who apparently love his presence, didn't even offer the guy a contract! Cuban met his goal as people here are pumped with these two guys and Carlisle is a great coach who might be able to make it work, but I personally see two high risk/high money signings.
To the main point I totally agree on the early season fade. Should be some good values.

I think Dallas improved getting rid of the bad apples in Ellis and Rondo (I love rondo as a Cs fan but he obviously couldn't work in Dallas) and adding Wes/Jordan but I wouldn't bet on Dallas to win the title either. pretty certain the title will go to one of the big 4 (Spurs, okc, gs or Clev due to being in the East)

Ellis is not a "bad apple" he's changed a lot since he got to Dallas. he's not the same guy as when he was with the Bucks.
People are overrating CP's importance throwing lobs to Jordan. Jordan is a freak athletically and huge. It's not hard to throw lobs to him.
The mavs will be a little better but not real contenders in the west. They'd be very fortunate to get out of the first round. Rick Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the league and often gets overlooked. Behind Popovich he's just as good as any coach in the league.
Losing Jae Crowder and Brandan Wright for Rondo hurt a lot last year. And will continue to hurt them this year not having quality depth. Also Al-Farouq Aminu was improving and became a nice role player late in the year so losing him to Portland will hurt which I think people are overlooking.
I think people don't react to Jordan as being a game changer but I don't think the average NBA fan realizes the depth they've lost

its not the actual lob itself, yea anyone can chuck a lob to a guy that can jump to the fu.ken moon....its the attention that all-stars like paul and griffin demand that is OPENING up the opportunity for jordan to make rim runs and cuts so as to be able to catch those lobs...paul is super dangerous wen he goes into scoring mode and is big trouble getting into the teeth of the defense and breaking you down so often times a big will leave deandre to help out on that penetration.and not many can check griffin and he sumtimes demands double teams in certain spots and is a vastly improved passer as already noted....he fed even more assists to jordan than paul did last season i believe??
so no,the act of throwing a ball sumwhere, anywhere,in the vicinity of the rim is not too troubling for your average nba player....but will the likes of barea and devin harris + nowitzki demand the type of xtra attention close to the basket that warrants jordans man leaving him??
i think we all know the answer to that question......i dont knock deandres game at all,i think he is awesome and even a little under-rated in the role that he is able to play...but as i say,i also think he is very limited offensively in terms of creating his own shots and being anything other than robotic, reactionary and athletic, which can only get you so far.....he really is maxing out where he is rite now....wen it comes to the nba its pretty safe to say that if you havent developed a post game of any note 5 years into your career you likely never will.

That's a good point. However in 30 minutes a game Tyson Chandler averaged 10 points per game. Jordan should be playing more than that. And Chandler wasn't getting those 10 points posting up. Jordan and Chandler do the same things Jordan just does them better (being younger more athletic etc)
Deandre only averaged 11.5 ppg last year. He will easily do that this year as well even without having CP and Blake.

I do think Jordan's FG % will drop though. I only say that because I think Dallas will just try to keep him happy and let him post up a couple times per game. (which is 100% a bad strategy)

Great post. The Mavs don't have anyone like that. I think he may develop a low post game but it is a long shop.
Jordan will be a force on the boards as usual but I don't really like paying max for a one directional player.

yep, agree with everything said above....no doubt he is an upgrade over an aging chandler and i also concur that his fg% will absolutely, positively drop if he is to start trying to make his own offense more and more...he is a terrific complementary "third fiddle" type guy but he shud not be a primary featured offensive go-to guy in any side that wishes to compete for the title.....just my opinion,i sure as hell have been wrong before and nothing shud surprise but im not buying it one little bit.

Who does Dallas have as the PG now? Still don't think they can get far with Deandre and with Carlisle coaching them, think they hit their ceiling a long time ago. Mavs are old hat, their bench sucks

I have to disagree with you... There have been many reports (feel free to look it up yourself, there are plenty of articles on the net) about how monta was very moody and selfish especially towards the last couple months of the season.

If Mavs get Lawson they are a top 4 team in the West. People are underestimating Jordan. Truth is Mavs have not had a player of Jordan's capabilities since ever. If the Dirk-Nash Mavs team or the 67 win Mavs team had Jordan they would have won at least one title. Jordan is a game changer out West, crippling the Clippers title hopes and vaulting Dallas into th conversation.

Upgrades with DJ:
Rebounding: Gigantic Defense: Big Scoring: Good upgrade
No one is underestimating Jordan Biemer.
We know what he can do. But he will not have Blake beside him or CP3 to pass endless lobs to him.
He's not a natural scorer. He's a clean-up scorer and leans on the greatness of other players to make it happen for him. There are no 'greats' on the Mavs outside of Dirk who is no longer the player he was (2-3 years left max?).
That said, the mavs will be better. It's simply the PRICE that will be offered to buy that 'better' that I am suggesting to fade in the OP.
Early in the season, Mavs home lines will be highly inflated for a team with several new parts that need to gel and produce. There is a learning curve there just like there was for one of the best in Lebron (and Wade) the first year.

I don't think any team can win a championship with DJ because of his horrendous free throws. You can't play him comfortably at the end of a close game! I think this might be a blessing in disguise for the Clippers. No more hack-a-jordan! Also, this might encourage Blake to go to another level.
2 seasons ago (maybe 3), Clippers experimented with going to DJ for a lot of post moves. They did this for about the first 2 months of the season. He actually had some very impressive post moves and was fairly consistent (or at least definitely had potential). .. and then all of a sudden, Clippers decided to stop the experiment. Does anyone here remember this?

He actually had some very impressive post moves and was fairly consistent (or at least definitely had potential). .. and then all of a sudden, Clippers decided to stop the experiment. Does anyone here remember this?
They are prob changing the rules on the whole 'hack a shaq' so bad free throw shooters won't be going to the line a million times in a game anymore. I'm curious to see what changes they make. I'm against changing the rule, if you suck at free throws then teams should be able to exploit that. If you work hard at them then teams wouldn't do hack a shaq on you. Look at Blake, he was around a 50% ft shooter earlier in his career but he improved through hard work and now I think he us shooting 71% or close to that number.
