with the Playoffs almost upon us with a month and a half of regular season action to go.. what are your plays? Which teams do you have a good read on that has a chance to win it all this year? gimme your thoughts. haven't placed any bets yet but here are picks and possibly how much i may wager
Eastern Conference
Cleveland Cavaliers -180(2 units) to win the East, +225(1.5 units) to win it all.
this is an obvious #1 play for me. The Cavs will finish the season from 4th seed to 2nd seed and miss the Hawks by several games but that doesn't matter. the Cavs are playing hot right now and will have more momentum than the Hawks by the time playoffs begin. i think LBJ's previous postseason success with the Heat will carry the Cavaliers back to the Finals and his supporting cast is the best he ever had in his time with the Cavs
Atlanta Hawks +150(0.5 unit) to win the East, +600(0.5 unit) to win it all
not putting as much stock into the Hawks. Sure they played great in the beginning and while they have cooled off a bit in the 2nd half of the season.. i think they will still continue that momentum heading into the postseason. They'll finish 1st, but I question whether they will be battle-tested enough to endure a 7 game series against the Cavs. Their playoff experience has been a series of one and done's but they should finally end that this time.
and finally
Chicago Bulls +800(1 unit) to win the East, +1800(0.7 unit) to win it all
The futures have fluctuated on the Bulls because of Rose's injuries but I also see some value in it. If Rose does indeed come back within 4-6 weeks that will be a nice bonus, but as a team they have played without Rose before and still had some success. I think they will finish in 3rd place.
The Bulls are the best longshot team to upset either Atlanta or Cleveland in the playoffs. They have some playoff experience and are battle-tested to play a 7 game series. They have played Lebron's team tough in the past. i'm putting a little more stock in this team than the Hawks. there are only 2 opponents Chicago has to focus and worry about. the rest of the other teams are weak and overrated.
there's no need to put stock in Milwaukee, Toronto, Charlotte Washington and whoever else makes the 8th seed.

Won't put much stock into the Western Conference as the East. I feel upsets are more likely to happen here and just about every team is good enough in their own right and no teams are safe but the #1 and #2 seeds should still have the advantage like in the past.
Golden State Warriors +160(1 unit) to win West +240(1 unit) to win it all
They are tough to beat at home when they get going. The luxury of the #1 seed and home court will work in Warriors favor. I don't see them coasting their opponent like in the regular season as they will have some close calls and lucky breaks. I could see a good defensive team like Memphis or even the defending champs give the Dub's problems. Won't put that much stock here and think they are a little overvalued
Memphis Grizzlies +550(1.5 units) to win West +1200(1 unit) to win it all
The Grizzlies aren't the showy kind of team but They show up in big games and have the hardest working big man in the game in Z Bo.This is still pretty much the same nucleus of players that played in the conference finals several years back. The addition of Vince Carter gave Memphis' offense a boost and veteran presense. They are playoff tested and ready and when they get Carter back they will be even more dangerous. I'm a little surprised they don't get talked about that much when OKC or Portland gets more buzz than them. Putting more stock in Grizzlies as they have good value
San Antonio Spurs +450(0.5 units) to win West +800(to win it all
It's not easy to repeat as champions, the Spurs have yet to accomplish that. Although it would be quite a feat to make it far as the 7th or 8th seed. Last time a seed that low made it to the Finals was Patrick Ewing's New York Knicks..the team the Spurs beat to win their 1st championship. I wouldn't count out the Spurs, they haven't played that good in regular season but come playoff time I think they'll be right in the thick of it.

OKC is too trendy. Even though they are playing hot I also see them as a volatile team. What if Westbrook or Durant gets injured again? If one of the 2 or both are out this team is done. The chances of them making it as a 7th or 8th seed odds are against them and at 3 to 1 odds? No thanks. I was debating Spurs or OKC and I chose Spurs they are proven champions and have better payout.

I love how people dismiss the Hawks as having no playoff experience and then give the Cavs a vote of confidence because of it. Lebron is the only player on that team that has true playoff experience. J.r. smith has some but he had the ultimate fail in his last trip to the playoffs. Their next two players have never played a playoff game while teague and horford have been to the playoffs every year that they have been in the league. This Hawks team is much more of a TEAM than the Cavs will ever be.
Budenholzer has far more playoff experience than any one from either team.

I do not think now is that good of a time to start grabbing futures. Might as well wait a month to see how the injuries and seedings play out. The prices are already not that great. Just about a week ago Cavs were ~+130 to win the East, OKC were +800 to win the West, Grizz +700; now these prices are about -150, +450, +450, which I think is a bit of an overreaction.
I think betting on SAS is a waste of money. My leans are pretty square, but right now it looks like the West will be between GSW/OKC/MEM and the Cavs should not be challenged that much in the East (even Rose returns completely healthy, unless Irving's or LBJ's injuries are serious)

from March 1st. Was looking all over for this but the archiving system sucks. had to search for the word "Vince" lol
Tried to make an argument supporting all the teams mentioned but my feelings hasn't really changed much for the teams I really like. Bulls vs Grizzlies still alive and well lol

Juicy indeed. Would've jumped at Memphis 30/1 odds to win the title after Golden State game 1 but settled on Grizzlies to win conference at 16/1 after game 2. Never know.. Feelin pretty good about the Grizz for the meantime lol
