A guy who failed as a GM and has no coaching experience is the must-get coach all of a sudden? OK. The guy seems smart and I'm sure knows the game of basketball well, but I would have gone for George Karl if I were Warriors management personally. Any competent coach should be able to lead that roster to at least 50 wins, so it was definitely a smart decision by him to take this job instead of the Knicks though. We'll see what happens....

Karl would've been no different IMO, warriors would be nuggs with a lil HGH, still wouldn't win a ship

I don't think Karl would have worked for the Warriors. One of the reasons I think Jackson got the boot was that he wouldn't defer to Lacob. By defer, I mean he wouldn't listen to what Lacob had to say (as all Cowboy coaches must), either good or bad. Another rumor was that Jackson couldn't or wouldn't get along with Lacob's kid, Kirk (somehow became Assistant General Manager), telling him not to talk to his assistant coaches. The assistant coaches was another thing. Who fires two assistant coaches with 12 days left in the regular season? Didn't you hire these guys?
The second Lacob said anything to George Karl, Karl would tell him "I got 25 years in the league. I'm okay"
What I never got was Kerr and Phil Jackson. You got a former coach becoming a GM for the first time, and a former GM becoming a coach for the first time
In the end, I think the money (Warriors backed up the Brinks truck), location (family lives in San Diego), and really, the pressure on Lacob to come through with SOMETHING BIG kind of forced him to go after Kerr.
They needed a public relations winner after getting crapped on for firing Jackson. Warrior fans only saw back to back playoff teams for the first time since, what? 1905? Plus, the Warriors lost their starting center right before the playoffs. They thought that was pretty unfair, considering.

Time will tell
+1 well said, I still don't believe kerr can get it done with that roster as it stands. Maybe if Bogut can somehow have an injury-free season (Lee too)
but lets face it, the warriors job, in terms of just talent as it stands, was much more desirable than the NY job. Add in dolan, and that brutal NY media, it's not that surprising he dissed the knicks for G State
