Since it's no secret in this forum that I'm from Indianapolis, I'll chime in here because I've kept a close eye on Miami all year to see how they and the Pacers stack up against each other.
IMHO, the Miami Heat are a big 1 with role players, and a coach that is getting better and better every year, and every series. And that's not exactly a bad thing for them.
Lebron played unbelievable minutes this year, and he continues to in the post-season with good reason. As far as Bosh, he seems to come and go just like last season and the season before. I don't consider him an elite player because he doesn't scare opponents every night. Wade is no longer an elite player because he doesn't scare opponents every night, but he can be deadly on random occasions.
When you say that Bosh is blocking key shots in the paint, and hitting game winning 3's, you're referring to tonights game, and that's correct, but in order to determine how a player ranks, we need to look at the big picture, and Bosh is a guy that out of a 7 game series can have a big impact on 1-2 of those games...other than that he's no better than your average stretch 4. Tonight he only had 12 pts and 5 rebs, which means he was with most of the Miami Heat team where they stood around and watched Lebron do all the work. Wade has become a guy that can have a big impact on 2-3 of the games in a 7 game series at best, and what the Heat and Spoelstra are dealing with right now is trying to figure out how to be consistent in the playoffs with Lebron, and the streaky Bosh and Wade.
Spoelstra has gotten pretty good at figuring out rotations and matchups. He's not in the category of Popovich and Carlisle, but he's better than people give him credit for. For this year, he's going to ride Lebron into the ground, and why not. They are on the verge of making 4 straight finals, and 3 straight championships, and they can't do it depending on Wade and Bosh. Spoelstra and the rest of the Heat are going to put the ball in Lebron's hands for the rest of the playoffs, and hope Lebron keeps shooting above 50% from the field, and then hope that Wade and Bosh have enough streaky games to get them to another finals.
The last few years the Heat have had underrated help from the role players like Battier's defense and 3 point shooting...Mike Millers 3 points shooting...Chalmers occasional good game, and Ray Allens free throw and 3 point shooting. However, this year they aren't getting that.
The Heat aren't a big 3, but for this year they don't care and that's their plan. Ride the best player in the league, and hope you get enough from other guys to squeak out series after series.
My personal opinion is that nobody from the East will win the championship, as I don't see the matchups playing in the favor of any East team. The West representative will be too talented at the guard and wing position night in and night out for the East to compete, but here's what I would do if I was playing the Heat...
I would play Lebron straight up 1 on 1, and hold the other guys in check. If I was an opposing coach, I'd be ok with Lebron shooting everything, and I would not allow the role players to shoot open 3's. That's where the Heat get dangerous is when random guys get hot behind the arc, and I would say let Lebron go for 40...I'm going to hold the rest of the guys to 45, and we're going to win 90-85. When you do that you get Lebron tired on D over the course of the series, and then you get the role players disinterested which is when the offense gets stagnant and it sputters, and the Heat flourish when everyones excited. They start to create turnovers, and they get out in transition, but if you get those role players bored, the Heat don't have those opportunites.
The Net's actually played it pretty good tonight making the Heat's offense stagnant and dependent on Lebron...but they didn't make 1 field goal in the last 5 minutes of the game. They had the right game plan, they just didn't close it out on the offensive end. Since they lost, people will rip on the Nets and praise Lebron, but I think the Nets played it the way teams should against the Heat.
My gut is that Lebron will not be back with the Heat unless some big contract restructuring with Wade and Bosh happens because Wade can opt into a huge payday that will get him paid, but will not allow Miami to go get other useful free agents, and Bosh will demand more money than he's worth. If these guys can work it out, they may stick together, but I see Lebron going to some other team with some younger guys that will help lower his minutes, and take some of the pressure off him as he had endured quite a bit of wear and tear on his body the last 8 years.
Hope this helps...
