The series shifts to Tennessee when the Memphis Grizzlies play host to the San Antonio Spurs for Game 3.
For yet another series, the Grizzlies will have to fight their way back from a series deficit as they head into Game 3 down 2-0 in the series. After getting embarrassed by the Spurs in the series opener, the Grizzlies found themselves with a chance to level the series at 1-1 but fell short by 93-89 in overtime in Game 2. Jerryd Bayless and Mike Conley led the team with 18 points apiece while Marc Gasol added 12 points and 14 rebounds, but while Zach Randolph added 15 points and 18 rebounds, he shot just six of 18 from the field which means he is just seven of 26 so far this series. As a team, the Grizzlies shot just 34 percent from the field and some of that has to do with Randolph's inefficiency, but there are certainly some positives from the loss because the Grizzlies managed to dominate the glass by 60-46, including 19-4 on the offensive glass.
As for the Spurs, they've taken care of business and are heading into Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead. Tim Duncan led the scoring with 17 points and nine rebounds despite battling foul trouble, but it was Tony Parker who tore up the Grizzlies with 15 points and a career playoff-high 18 assists. In fact, the Spurs had all their starters finish in double figures which is a great sign, but while coach Gregg Popovich will be pleased with his team's efficiency on the offensive end, he won't be too impressed that the Grizzlies were able to claw back from an 18-point deficit to force overtime. San Antonio had firm control for most of Game 2, but they certainly didn't have much control in the last 8:14 of the game when they missed five straight shots which allowed the Grizzlies to come back.
In ATS trends, the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a winning record, while the Grizzlies are 6-0 ATS in their last six home games and 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a loss. In head to head trends, the Spurs are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Spurs took care of business and will be heading into Game 3 with plenty of confidence but they showed some signs of vulnerability that the Grizzlies would have picked up on from Game 2. Parker has been on a tear lately but I just get a feeling that the Grizzlies will find a way to contain him and avoid falling in a 3-0 series hole. I'm taking the Grizzlies to win and cover in this one.
