This thread is for the discussion of the Philippines' Philippine Basketball Association 2013 Commissioner's Cup Conference. Lines are through a local, megasportsworld, and I think pinny have them.

I won't be making any more new thread so there will be less clutter. Anyone can post here, share your insights, rumors, injury reports, etc. To make things interesting we'll run a little contest just for bragging rights so we can get everyone sharing their thing here.

CMM's Local Hoops Challenge Rules:

  1. Post your best play.
  2. I will only accept sides, totals NO Money Lines.
  3. Post before tip-off
  4. I will record everything and will reserve a Top 10 Best and the Worst Cappers (inspired by WBA's threads).
  5. If I find you not active, you'll be remove from the list (after a week of not posting).
  6. This thread will only record PBA 2013 Philippine Cup.
  7. I will have the right to evaluate whether the line you post is real or not. I will try to post an Official Line 10 to 15 minutes before game time. Failure to post your own line will follow the bet365/MSW line if the official line is not posted.
  8. You are not allowed to post in Tagalog or any other language that is not English in this thread.
  9. Last but not the least please follow this format (to make it easier for me and everyone else):

(YTD: 0-0)

(your own line)

Here's an example:

PBA 2013 Commissioner's Cup Primer

Air21 Express
Team Mojo: C+
Last Conference: 5-9 SU | 9-5 ATS | 4-10 O/U
Outlook: Looking forward to a full conference with the Cool Cat. They finished last conference strong and even gave the eventual Champs a run for their money. Air21 is just one key player away from being a serious threat. They have bench players who can score and energy guys to shift the tides of the game. Nino Canaleta came through last conference and is primed for an even bigger scoring role. Mike Cortez makes this team even deadlier looking like a do-it-all guard for Coach Pumaren. As long as he's on the driver's seat for the Express, expect role players like John Wilson, Sena, etc.. to have a much bigger impact.

Michael Dunigan is 6'10" and is what the Air21 express just needed. Dunigan gives them a serious interior threat who moves well with/without the ball and is very athletic for his size. He'll complement Baclao/Reyes well downlow and will enjoy his fair share not really requiring a lot of touches to be effective.

Air21 is in Group A where they battle dangerous teams like TNT, Alaska, Meralco and Barako. I see them being a solid team this conference ATS-wise covering a lot of games as dogs.

Alaska Aces
Team Mojo: B+
Last Conference: 8-6 SU | 9-5 ATS | 5-9 O/U
Outlook: Alaska returns to this conference posing a serious threat to the Texters in they playoffs. Focus again will be on prized-rookie Calvin Abueva who sparked the Aces' rise last conference. The Aces are a tough bunch who have a good inside-outside game but boast of their hard-nosed defending. Lead by Smart Gilas standout Jayvee Casio, their bid for this conference's crown will have to ask a lot more from Cyrus Baguio, Thoss and Gabby Espinas.

Enforcing the Aces will be Robert Dozier who stands at 6'9". In my opinion, the second most atheletic import in the bunch who can guard multiply positions and prides for his no-nonesense defense. He can stretch the floor but I see him not really that well offensively. The Aces wouldn't mind since they win more games when they allow 80 or less points a game.

Barako Bulls Energy Cola
Team Mojo: C-
Last Conference: 4-10 SU | 4-10 ATS | 4-10 O/U
Outlook: Barako Bulls shook a bit of its lineup via trade but ultimately got what they are looking for. Barako has always looked for pass first point guards but never really had one. Now they have Jonas Villanueva who's a veteran playmaker to run the show with Celino Cruz and spit-fire Urbiztondo. Roger Yap's scoring load will now be lighter
welcoming back Maliksi and Don Allado in the fold.

Barako will parade high flying Evan Brock who enjoys playing above the rim. He used to play for the Indonesia Warriors in the ABL so there won't be much of a transition with him playing in the PBA.

Aside from newly acquired players and the addition of imports, calling the shots for the Barako Bulls is former Gilas head honcho, Rajko Toroman. He's officially the team's consultant along with Bong Ramos as the official head coach. Expect this team to have a hard time early adjusting to Toroman's brand of ball - that is a lot of ball movement, spacing and perimeter shooting.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings
Team Mojo: C+
Last Conference: 7-7 SU | 4-10 ATS | 5-9 O/U
Outlook: Baranggay Ginebra welcomes Mac Baracael and a new coach in Al Francis Chua. The crowd darling sports almost an untouched roster from last season who needs a lot of work in their front line. Chua will be focusing on utilizing Ginebra's speed with the number of guards he can rotate and the quality of players who can create their own shots. Usual suspects - Mark Caguioa, LA Tenorio and Jayjay Helterbrand - will be looking to need a lot more from rising star Chris Ellis, Jensen, and Maierhofer.

Before a run & gun offense is to be built, the first requirement for it is to be able to rebound the ball before an outlet pass could be made going to the wing. Ginebra's 6-foot-10 Herbert Hill will have his hands full doing all the works down low. He's a very talented post player who works hard on both end of the floor though a terrible freethrow shooter. Hill is a tireless worker who easily feeds off the crowd. I think he'll be a good match for the Gin Kings. I see Ginebra hovering in the middle of the pack getting weird lines here and there.

Global Port Batang Pier
Team Mojo: C
Last Conference: 1-13 SU | 4-10 ATS | 9-5 O/U
Outlook: Expansion teams usually ends up the beating boys of the league, not until you have an owner who has a history of running winning teams. In the team's second conference, they got busy scoring Sol Mercado from the Bolts (along with promising big man in Kelly Nabong) and Japeth Aguilar from the Texters. On Paper, they will have a starting unit that can create their own shots and easily explode to 20+ points themselves but the reality of it is that each would need the ball a lot to be effective.

Sol Mercado isn't really a point guard, and all this talks about him pairing up with Japeth to mimic that of the Clippers' Lob city seem to not gel. Coach Junel Baculi will have his hands full on how to share the leather and control the players' ego as they go along. They are fairly thin in their bench and so a good rotation between resting his starters will be key.

Wyoming's Justin Williams stands at 6'10" isn't a force on the offensive end. IMO that really works as they already have no probelm in scoring. Last season, they are a 9-5 O/U team with Gary David playing half of the season injured. He will serve as the team's defensive anchor and do all the dirty job asked from him. Global Port will be a nice fade early until we can see a semblance of chemistry within their stars.

Meralco Bolts
Team Mojo: C-
Last Conference: 8-6 SU | 10-4 ATS | 7-7 O/U
Outlook: They were the best ATS team last season but it's easy to see that they are having a lot of problems as they went along. After trading corner stone Sol Mercado, Meralco will have to do with young budding players and will have to ask a lot more from Mac Cardona, Buenafe and Cliff Hodge.

Meralco has always produced an import who gets crazy numbers night-in, night-out and I think this conference is anything different. 6-9 Eric Dawson with a 7-6 Wingspan has been impressive in pre-season games. He can hit the ball from anywhere around 18-feet and has lead his team in Japan and South Korea to championships. He's very athletic and a do-it-all guy.

With not much going for the Bolts, I see them banking heavy on their import while asking for everyone else as much contribution as they can squeeze out. Meralco will be as gritty as they were last conference and pretty much do well ATS-wise.

Petron Blaze Boosters
Team Mojo: B+
Last Conference: 6-8 SU | 6-8 ATS | 5-9 O/U
Outlook: Despite a horrible first conference of Coach Racela, I think the people would need to see cohesion and better rotation until they jump on the Boosters' bandwagon again. Junmar has been a revelation in the last few games and has been seen banging bodies even with imports in the ABL. We'll most likely see a Cabagnot-Lutz/Lassiter-Santos/Washington-Fajardo-Balkman starting unit. With this much talent, a better system should be put to use for them to bring them out. Racela has always gone with a short rotation and never really asking much from the other guys. S
ame old story for the Booster and only time would tell when they'll be the next Tropang Texters.

Renaldo Balkman is the shortest of this conference's imports measuringonly 6'5" without shoes but is the only one with the longest NBA experience. Petron doesn't really need another scoring threat but an energy guy who can do all the dirty works for this team. Officially measured at 6-8, he's a guy who can play 3,4 or the 5 spot for the Boosters. I think Petron picks up where they left off last conference and pretty much hover in the middle pack. I still have doubts with Junmar's aggressiveness offensively but he has the potential to go beyond. Petron, despite having a packed roster, is this conference's dark horse to win it all.

Rain or Shine Elaso Painters
Team Mojo: A
Last Conference: 9-5 SU | 9-5 ATS | 5-9 O/U
Outlook: I don't think there is much to say about this team. With no real player movement or upgrade, this team looks to be in good shape for the next year or two. They have the still improving players in Chan, Norwood, Lee, Tiu and Jervy Cruz. They are also the most dangerous when healthy and could really give any team a run for their money. They are a team that can rotate 5-guys in and 5-guys out any day and have the right balance of players to sustain a high level of basketball.

Bruno Sundov is the tallest in the bunch at 7'3" but is pegged to look for more jumpers than forcing his way with his size. It really isn't a problem for the Elasto Painters as they are built to play that way. The downside here is that Sundov has not much mobility and ahtletecism and does not offer much defensively.

If Sundov doesn't fair well offensively, I can see them replacing him early on. I also think we'll see a lot of stretches where the Painters will be playing all-filipino from time to time. ATS-wise, RoS is a team you can expect to always climb right back even after being down 20+ in a game. That's how hard these players ball night-in and night-out.

San Mig Coffee Mixers
Team Mojo: A-
Last Conference: 10-4 SU | 7-7 ATS | 5-9 O/U
Outlook: San Mig Coffee Mixers traded for Alex Mallari who Tim Cone is very fond off and is working him to be his next Combo Guard (but more of a Point). Lester Alvarez is also another promising point guard in the fold who'll play backup to the ever improving Mark "Coffee Prince" Barroca, who played big during the playoffs for the Mixers. Tim Cone's offense will again be spear-headed by James Yap who pledged to have a better outing than his disappearance in the semis last conference. He'll be backed by Joe Devance, YDO, PJ Simon and Pingris in an attempt to score back-to-back Commissioner's Cup Throphies.

Matt Rogers will man the middle for the Coffee Mixers. He's the first choice of Tim Cone last conference but failed to meet the requirements till they saw crowd favorite Denzell Bowles bring them to glory. Rogers isn't as physical as Bowles but has better range than Bowle's 15 footers. I think SMC will again be a strong favorite to win it all this conference. I see them going below .500 ATS wise but that's because every other team has improved and they tend to play close games.

Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters
Team Mojo: A+
Last Conference: 12-2 SU | 6-8 ATS | 6-8 O/U
Outlook: People thought Talk N Text won't get any better as they are now but Al Hussaini's new found work ethic and a multi-titled coach in Norman Black, the Texters are even better than before. Not much to say about this team after being together for so long now and seem to always stay on top during the regular season. Their mission now is to follow up their Philippine Cup success with the Commisioner's Cup throphy.

They are going to field Kieth Benson who is a hard nosed defender and is great in shutting down the post. He isn't a terrific offensive player, which isn't a problem for TNT, but he has a jump hook that'll be tough to stop and can score anywhere in the 12-foot range. He'll be a perfect fit for the Texters who was exposed to have a weak post defense by the Aces. I see the Texters coasting in the regular season and pretty much covering more than 6 games thsi conference.
