In the past three seasons, the Celtics are 5-3 ATS when traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast. Looking back at their past results, this is the same situation as they faced in 2009 where they went up against a tough Orlando Magic team and were underdogs by 5.5 points and won SU by 9 points. They then had to fly out to Los Angeles to play a much weaker Clippers team and lost the game SU as 8.5 point favorites. I don't think the Celtics will WIN this game straight up, but I do think it will be a physical, tough battle the entire way. The Celtics can't rebound worth a garbage, but they still force you into difficult shots and keep you from getting "easy" shots. This is a situational letdown play for the Clippers. They are the talk of the town and have the best record in the NBA, a position that they have never been in.
During this winning streak, the Clippers have been able to put up 100+ points 10 times...that is something that I feel they NEED to do tonight if they want to cover. In those 10 games, they have only faced a decent defense TWICE...vs. Minnesota and Milwaukee ranked 5th and 10th respectively. 7 out of those 10 games in triple digits were against the bottom 6 in defense. The Celtics don't qualify as a lower level defense in any statistical categories besides rebounding.
In the end, I will lean towards a veteran team coming in with a chance to end a huge winning streak over a young team just about every time. Clippers will still win the game IMO because of their fast break and rebounding, but it will be close.
Prediction: Clippers 97 Celtics 93
Could u just explain why this game should be a letdown spot? can t agree with u on that one. the let down would be another weaker team but not the celtics. I think the clippers are aware and want to get revenge for their lost in 2011 at home |

#32 Posted: 12/27/2012 2:02:29 PM The Celtics will probably finish just over .500 this season if that. What I ask myself is "Are the Celtics as good as last season?" Defensively no. Offensively no as well IMO. Are the Celtics a forth quarter team? I'd say no due to their age and lack of energy down the stretch of games. Even last season they had plenty 4th quarter melt downs. Now ask yourself the same questions about the Clippers and your answer should be yes. Id rather watch the line until the final moments before touching this one. @ -8.5 I'd lean Clips. If the line drops I'd lean Boston. And to be honest I don't think this line is dropping due to the traveling situation. Boston just had a road game against BK where they looked as if they were clicking on all cylinders. They're only on a day of rest after two 4-6 hour bus trips and now flying West. I'm not sure they had enough time to prepare for this one. GL with your picks fellas. I'm still undecided. |

The Clippers are led by Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, two phenomenal talents who are deadly serious about their jobs. Led by these two all-business types, the rest of the Clippers follow by example, and that's why I think this team would never let accolades go to their heads. They're not going to come out overconfident because people are praising them and telling them how good they are. If Chris Paul were to catch even a whiff of overconfidence, he would snuff it out like you'd snuff out a burning match. I have bet against the Clippers twice this week, so believe me when I tell you that there is no money to be made from trying to pick letdown spots for this group. They will again take the floor tonight with the eye of the tiger, as they seem to do every game now.

The Clippers' two big men, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, are young. The rest of the rotation? Not so young.
Matt Barnes is 32
Caron Butler is 32
Jamal Crawford is 32
Willie Green is 31
Lamar Odom is 33
Chris Paul is 27
Ronny Turiaf is 29

Clippers -8.5, but it's not a play to get excited about. Now the Wizards +1 tomorrow, on the other hand... |

I want to bet the Clippers, but think I will stay away from betting on either game tonight.
Clippers, as convincing as they've looked, have had a very easy schedule allowing them to get the 14 game win streak. The next 15 games however will allow us to better gauge how good they are.
This is not to take anything away from them, but they rely on the fast break quite a bit, and don't have much of a low post game.
If Celtics can slow the tempo, and set up their defense, forcing a half court game, it could take the Clippers out of rhythm and frustrate them.
Granted, the Celtics are nothing compared to their former defensive selves, but I think they might be able to play some decent defense to slow down the Clippers and get a cover.
But I'll agree with you that the Wizards game does indeed look interesting.
Good luck |

You know they were below .500 last year before the all star break right? Def worse than this year...PP/KG arent going to go all out now, only to get injured or run out of gas before the playoffs....they are also missing avery bradley, who is imo one of the best defenders in this league. I guarantee you they will be a force by the time the playoffs roll around, I m so confident that I m telling you this after tonights game where they looked like a D league team. |
