for each game that is played every night I take notes on the opening lines, closing lines( or near closing time) to track the movement, important to note the lines for both teams(here on covers they show only the home teams line movement), i do the same for totals and team totals, I also note the date and day of the week.I will track how many home teams have won that night and vice versa, dogs to favs, etc. I like to keep notes because it allows me to go back anytime and see if I can find some clues for the today's matches in past lines, while covers has the lines for the day, they don't have the opening lines from let's say last tuesday for example( i might be mistaken but i haven't found that yet here).I still do my due diligence and look at trends and stats that is available here at covers, also try and read as many articles on the respective teams i am capping to try and get a feeling of that team.My approach might not work exactly for you , but you may be able to adapt an aproach that you are comfortable with.I have found capping is like a puzzle, you can have a few pieces that makes an image but it might not give you the big picture of the whole puzzle, the more pieces you have the better chance you will have to see the whole puzzle! You should try taking notes( you might find other things to note also) for a week and then look at those notes and you might be able to find some clues as to where to bet.I always told myself that the best capper is vegas, so i want to find out where he(or she, don't want to be sexist lol) is leaning.I hope this helps you out a little. |

#5479 Posted: 1/31/2013 4:40:44 PM Still waiting to see how low the line for the OKC game will fall before making my picks. So far leaning towards the Over fir the second quarter and first half and OKC -2 in both 2nd and 4th Qs;

Well thats sure good for you :) i usually don't have that much time, I started making stats of my own bets when i first started betting to see where was i going wrong, where was I too impulsive or subjective or fan-related... then somedays i couldn't do it, and then you have it all wrong. Its very important to be consistent and i mean everysingle day taking notes... I saw that this isn't working for me...well maybe at least not now when i'm first season playing for small amounts to see, how the system works. Maybe if someday i'll raise my stakes i'll put more time in it aswell... |

these two things are key! It's like anything in life that you want to be successful at , you have to put the time in, and also have the passion for it.I am truly passionate about handicapping, I come in early to work to check lines and stats, lunch break or any break for that matter i'm doing the same thing(sometimes it gets tricky finding time when you run a small business), I relax at home at night by going over my notes while watching the games, to me it's fun! |

#5482 Posted: 1/31/2013 6:03:33 PM Great input here Green Giant. I think the reason you're doing well in NHL now and will generally do well in any handicapping is your patience to take the notes on every game - intersting or not and use them when interesting will come in future. That is only way to deal with handicapping - looking at the big picture - or Code. And you all know that was not invented here. |

#5485 Posted: 1/31/2013 6:20:36 PM BOgut's return will make things easier for an opponent who is in great form
Final: DALLAS Mavericks +3 (-110) 110$
Final: OKC Thunder - MEMPHIS Grizzlies Under 189 (-110) 110$
G a y's absence will affect the Grizzlies' offense and they'll have no choice but to slow the game down. This is number 1 offense going at it against number 1 defense and G a Y was no defensive anchor.
Final: GS Warriors - DALLAS Mavericks Under 203.5 (-110) 110$

#5490 Posted: 1/31/2013 9:20:28 PM Hi All,
Haven't posted for awhile but have been following this thread pretty closely.
Got to say I find the totals movements a bit puzzling today. All the money has been for the overs, well as far as I can make out, yet the line reverses...why? Is it a play by the books to drag money to the unders to even it out.

#5492 Posted: 2/1/2013 3:32:08 AM Hi Mavin. I notice that rcently even though all the money are in one side, that side still wins. Lost a lot of money due to this. |

#5493 Posted: 2/1/2013 2:28:25 PM Thanks for the plays yesterday Mavin, was lucky enough to get the Mavs at +3.5. I like those half point wins better than a twenty point blow out win, think it pisses the books off more! |

#5498 Posted: 2/1/2013 3:07:18 PM Great job Mavin, you said you would be in +money by the end of the month and you are. Just shows how important money management and patience are. I think those two things are the most important aspects of this game! |

#5499 Posted: 2/1/2013 3:13:03 PM Hey Mavin, Any leans for today yet brother?
This is probably a trap but I love the Clippers... I don't think Toronto is capable of pulling off any upsets right now... Especially not against a team like the Clippers.

#5500 Posted: 2/1/2013 3:21:48 PM Mavin,
Been following from the beginning but haven't posted in a long time. You may remember that I was the fool who had BR up to $2020 and promptly lost $700 on online Casino.
Well after much back and forth and some tailing of your picks (up and down) I am still hanging steady at $1300. I cannot pick college BBall this year worth a damn so that is my downfall. So for now I am just going to tail you in NBA and use my own skills for Golf (my favorite and most knowledgeable sport) and small amounts on the local College Teams. Really you should just bet the sports/teams you know the most about anyway... duh!!
Probably the most important thing I have learned from this thread is PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE. Just place your bets carefully and win or lose do it again tomorrow, much like a golfer just taking it one shot at a time and not getting too excited either way!!
Just wanted to say thanks for this thread and keep up the good work. |
