Do you think the current team can beat the Dream Team?

Nope. They'll get creamed down low. I don't think they'd even win the rebounding battle against the Dream Team.

Exactly..\

David Robinson....

Patrick Ewing...

Karl Malone...

Charles Barkley....would control the paint

shot blocking & rebounding is the biggest difference between the two olympic teams

92 dream team is best team of all time....team had "0" flaws

they have a shot...

pg- paul
sg- bryant
sf- durant
pf- james
c- love

this is a legit starting 5... robinson, ewing, malone might be dominant, but they wont be on the floor together..

If Howard, Bynum, Garnett, Duncan etc.. were playing yea

with this team now no chance.. too small. This is not even the best team USA can field. Blake, Iguadala, etc.. should be nowhere near the squad.

If we were to compare generations I'd say the one present is way better..

Kobe, Durant, Lebron alone will be top 5-6 of all time by the time they retire. Then you have a bunch of future hall of famers like CP3, Rose, and co.

11 out of the 12 players in the 1992 squad are hall of famers

the 5 from 1992 that this years team could not deal with is as follows:

pg....magic johnsom

sg....the goat....michael jordan

sf......charles barkley

pf.....karl malone

c.......robinson or ewing

The starting 5 from the current squad is a hybrid lineup.....they will having guys playing out of position...they are undersized....

And yes...Barkley...Malone and Ewing/Robinson....will conrol the paint.....the boards....

This really is not a toss-up

There is no comparison.  The 2012 Team USA is no way close to 1992 Dream Team.  First of all, nobody can top MJordan.  Then you got 2 bigs in Ewing and Robinson that is unstoppable.  Stockton is one of the best passing PGs of all time.  MJohnson is unstoppable.  Barkley is a rebounding beast.

LBird and Mullen. Who can outshoot them?

Barkley said that Kobe, LBJ and Durant were the only guys on this 2012 team that "might" could make the 1992 dream team

Kobe isn't exactly going to reply with 'no, i don't think we can'.

Besides this statement is coming from a guy who mirrored, mimicked, emulated studied and copied Jordan's every move. I mean look @ the way he just grew a goatie. c'mon Kobe i know you know quite well who would win.

Dream Team ''92'' vs Dream Team ''02''

Fianl score will likely turn out be 121-77 if these two were to play against each other back in them days.
Games were won by an average of 46.5 pts a game that summer.
Croatia was our only competition beating them twice by a margin of 33 and 32 pts in the Olympics

92 Dream Team won't have an answer to LBJ playing in the paint. He probably cancels out MJ's production.

Durant and Kobe (in his prime) can probably match Larry and Mullen's shooting.

I give an edge to Magic over whichever PG they put on him.

92 Dream Team's Starting 5:

Center: Patrick Ewing
Power Forward: Charles Barkley
Small Forward: Larry Bird
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
Point Guard: Magic Johnson

I'd probably put Kobe on PG, KD on SG, Melo on SF,  Bron on PF and probably go with Chandler instead.

Magic is obviously a defensive nightmare for any of Coach K's PGs. I think putting a taller guard on him would do the trick. MJ is obviously unstoppable and Larry's sweet shooting is up there. Melo cancels Larry out. The guy is way waaay effective in international games for some reasons. KD stretches it out and tries to out gun MJ. Bron can pretty much put up with Barkley and pull a one up on him over the offensive end. The Center position is where the 2012 USA Team will suck. Chandler, Love, Griffin won't have a field day against the Admiral, The Mail Man or Ewing. Pippen > Iggy and the 92 team even have the taller Clyde to play wing.

It would probably be a different thing if Howard or say Duncan/KG in their prime plus probably Rose. Then again, the 92 dream team didn't even have Reggie and the Dream.

please tell me you were not fooled by that series into thinking Lebron has improved significantly in the paint. Thunder breathed it was a foul, you know how comfortable that is for a players offense?

90's cats were tough as garbage, Lebron wouldn't be able to handle the constant taunts and garbage talk - he couldn't handle Kobe tell him to take it to him and shoot in last seasons all-star game. C'mon now

Good point 3Ball.

But this 2012 USA TEAM is one heck of a scary team when they run.

I see why your name is CrazyMilkMan, if you think this year's Olympic Team could beat the 92 Dream Team, you have to be crazy. First of all this year's team would have serious matchup problems. There is no one that can guard Magic, Jordan, Ewing, Malone, or Barkley. As Barkley said, Labron, Kolb and Durant would be the only ones off this year's team that compete with the 92 team, after that nobody, (although I would also include Chris Paul). Also look at the 2nd teams of both squads. Pippen, Drexler, Mullens, Robinson. Notice I didn't include a healthy Bird or Stockton. Who on this year's team can compete with that?

I remember the 1992 dream team like it was yesterday (last-year)

The fact that Kobe and others have said these guys were @ end of their career - is not true - and can be refuted by two facts........NBA MVPs and NBA Finals appearances post 1992 Olympics

Michael Jordan - clearly in his prime won several NBA MVPs and appeared in finals several years

Scottie Pippen - played w/ MJ - his key sidekick - several NBA Finals Appearances post 1992

Charles Barkley - appeared in NBA Finals after 1992 - won a NBA MVP

Karl Malone - appeared in several NBA Finals - won two NBA MVPs (in jordan era)

David Robinson - appeared in NBA Finals - won NBA MVP

John Stockton - appeared in several NBA Finals - lost to Jordan...all time great with assists and steals

Clyde Drexler - Patrick Ewing --- NBA Finals Appearance --no rings....drexler lost to jordan....ewing one appearance lost to olajuwon....

Chris Mullin was on team to stretch the floor -- but is a hall of famer

Magic Johnson and Larry Bird must be confusing folks....yes they were @ the end of their careers....but those other guys were all in their PRIME....and Magic still had plenty of game left.....All Star MVP that year...and had just made the NBA finals the year before the olympics

I know it is not fair to project Kevin Harden, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, Deron Williams, Tyson Chandler, Chris Paul, LBJ, Kobe, Durant, and Carmelo Anthony

Both teams are good on paper -- I saw that 92 team play and it had no weaknesses

As good as the current 12 team is --- they appear to have a size disadvantage

More than half of the players in the 1992 squad are top 50 greatest players list.  The rest are top 100 of all time.

Top 50 Greatest
Charles Barkley
Larry Bird
Clyde Drexler
Patrick Ewing
Magic Johnson
Michael Jordan
Karl Malone
Scottie Pippen
John Stockton

Out of this list, only two players were voted to be the 50 greatest players of all time:
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson

***Also, during their time period competition was fierce and yet these guys still can get their stats up.***

In the current Olympic squad.  Only Kobe and Lebron deserves the top 50 greatest players position.  I have no doubt that Lebron will be voted as top 50 players of all time.  Hard to say about Kobe....

***Most memorable moment for Kobe was that sick 81 points vs. Toronto***

Durant could be but it's gonna take a while.  He needs to learn how to defense.

As for the rest of the 2012 squad, they are no where close.

______________

That's it.  They had ZERO weaknesses.  They could absolutely match up with ANY line-up someone else might put out there.  They could absolutely play any way they wanted.

You can't say that about the 2012 team.

It's very simple. Look at it this way, this year's squad players of K-Love, Griffin, and Chandlers' jobs are to inbound the ball, play a little defense, and rebound. That's pretty much their role.

Can you say those were the roles of Barkley, Malone, and Ewing? Absolutely not.

Lebron might be right about this team beating the dream team if they have the MIAMI refs officiating the game.
