He has his down falls as do a lot of great players, but on the right team he can get you what you need. Dantoni is a shitty coach in my opinion, his style of basketball will score you points, but won't win you big time games.
I have a buddy who's a Knicks nut...and I told him 2yrs ago or whatever that they weren't winning garbage with D' Antoni as the coach. His style promotes ZERO defense, and now you have 2 of the worst team defenders in the league playing 35+ mins a game in Amare/Melo. This is why they brought in Chandler, unfortunately his tenacity on defense has obviously not translated over to Melo or Amare.
As for your Melo assessment. I would agree those things made the guy a star. However, he was leading Denver to the playoffs...and that was because he didn't have a big man who ran the pick n roll. Denver got up and down the floor, had Nene who actually has post skills and they shot a ton of jumpers. This simply wont happen in NY, as Amare is only efficient in a pick n roll style...which Melo simply isn't capable of running. |
