Houston Rockets -3 (-110)

Houston has played a brutal schedule this year and their record indicates it (2-6 with all 6 losses to playoff bound teams).  Charlotte boasts a similar record for similar reasons (2-7 with 6 losses to playoff bound teams).  The Bobcats are at home - yet - despite their similarities to Houston they are 3 point underdogs.  So why aren't they getting any respect from the oddsmakers?  Well for starters, they're 30th in the NBA in my comprehensive defensive stats model.  They're also playing on a back-to-back and fourth game in five days.  Houston on the other hand is playing on two full days of rest.  Playing in the west hurts their playoff chances significantly, but they're still the 8th best team in that conference according to my power rankings.  With Charlotte's lack of depth they will really struggle to get up defensively for this game.  They're already ranked in the bottom of the league so the sky will be the limit for a rested Houston team.  The Rockets should take advantage of playing one of the NBA's worst teams tonight and they should win by a comfortable margin.  2-units on this wager.  First 2u bet of this calender year.  Last year I was 20-7 on 2u wagers.  Let's start this year off right!

Yeah, this is more of a situational fade of the Bobcats than it is a tail of the Rockets.  Charlotte is so poor on defense, Houston could throw anybody out there and still put up 100+.

All the best Si1ly. Always a pleasure reading your informative posts. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the Portland game tonight. Got some money on it with a buddy of mine who feels the Clippers will win SU while I like the Blazers.

BOL tonight.

It's never a good idea to fade Portland at home.  Added bonus that the Clippers play Miami at home the next day.  This is a very awkward scheduling spot so if they find themselves down in the fourth quarter, they may hold back a bit saving themselves for the bigger game tomorrow.  However, Chris Paul had decent success against the Trailblazers as a Hornet and his addition to the Clippers was such an improvement that they went from 0-3 ATS last season (losing by an average margin of 11 points) to 1-0 SU and ATS beating Portland by 5 at home earlier this month.  That's a 16 point swing!  I'd give the edge to Portland at home in a revenge spot but clearly CP3 made a huge difference in how the Clippers match-up with the Trailblazers.  I would lean to LAC on the spread, but because of their awkward scheduling spot it's an easy pass.  Sorry I can't be more clear, this game is pretty much a toss-up in my book with a slight lean on LAC.

Looks like yes.  He only had a bruised foot and has now had a few days to rest it.  Listed as probable - but sources say he'll be in the lineup tonight against Charlotte.

Kevin Martin has the flu.. he's going to be a game time decision.  I like Houston's chances with or without him in the line-up.

Thanks for the insight si1ly. Portland is such a dangerous team at home and they always turn it up a few notches during the second half of their games. When you said you give the slight lean on LAC, did you mean on the spread or SU?

Thanks again.
All the best.

Spread.  They'd have to play very well for 4 quarters to win straight up and I don't find that very likely with the look ahead angle to Miami tomorrow.

I'd give LAC a ~55% chance of covering 5.5 and ~30% chance of winning straight up.

Bobcat fan here.  I really like Houston here also.  Charlotte lacks quality depth so they are going to be tired coming into this game.  Also, Houston is riding a 4 game losing streak with a game on deck against the Spurs tommorow night, so they will look at this game as a must win game for them.  Look for Houston to cover this spread.
