Last day of the regular season. Stats, trends,
schedule -- none of that matters today. What matters is 'motivation', or I
should say 'lack of'. Primarily 'lack of motivation' for playoff-bound teams. I
like to look for under-achieving home teams in this spot. Here are the ones I'm
playing:
#1: Charlotte Bobcats
-2
Atlanta will be resting their
starters and their mind has been focused on the Magic for awhile now. Bobcats
have a number of younger players who could be playing for starting positions
and/or roster spots next year. With MJ looking on and evaluating these guys, I
expect them to put forth the necessary effort in this one.
#2: Golden State Warriors -2.5
Portland has nothing to play for as they've locked in the
#6 spot. They're also playing on a b2b after winning at home last night. I
expect many starters to be resting in this one and the Warriors to shoot a lot
of 3's against a D that won't really put up much of an effort. Yes I know Ellis
is out and Curry is GTD...that's already accounted for in the
line.
#3: Utah Jazz
-3
Denver is resting most of their
key players in this one. In addition a number of their guys picked up some
injuries in their last game. With 'fear' of an injury, I don't expect the
backups to go all out in this one. Jazz have enough talent in their starting
lineup to easily beat these Nuggz backups at home.
#4: Los Angeles Clippers -5
Might be my favorite game today. Grizz are playing on b2b
in this one and are very happy to "tank" this one. No need to win and face the
Lakers (most likely) in the 1st round (I do expect the Hornets to lose as well).
Hornets own the tie-breaker over them and both teams are tied in the standings.
I expect key number of players to be held out for this one. Blake Griffin and
Co. should be able to get a very easy victory in front of their home-fans in
this one.
#5: Dallas Mavericks
-10.5
Ok, in this scenario we have a
Hornets squad that has been trying to 'tank' games lately in order to avoid the
Lakers. Well, now Memphis has assumed the same strategy and will be looking to
do the same. What are the Hornets to do here? Well, 'tank' even harder! By
losing to Dallas it accomplishes 2 things. #1: Hopefully the Lakers lose and the
Hornets will face off against Dallas in the 1st round. or #2: It will at least
force LA to play their starters and to play hard, if they want to lock-up the #2
seed. Either way, it's in Hornets best interest to lose this game. Sure the
players/coaches won't say that, but psychologically, they know that playing LA
in the first round is just not a smart thing to do. Lose this game and hope for
SacTown to come to play later on tonight.
I
know the line seems a bit low already, but when Dallas wins tonight, I expect
the competitive juices to flow. I expect Kobe to do whatever it takes to get the
#2 seed. We shall see how the Dallas games plays out of course, prior to making
a play here.
Good luck!

hello bodio. picks 1 - 4 play into your strategy today. The mavs & show however seem dangerous.
In the mavs case. the mavs don't need to win by 11. knowing the hornets will tank, the mavs (IMO) will likely let off the gas themselves, give the bench heavy minutes. Both teams can accomplish their goals with a 1 point mavs win.
& the show will be facing an opponent that has played well to finish the season/last game arco bla bla bla. I gotta wonder how important the 2 seed is to the lakers "players". they seem so unwilling to exert themselves. I'm not sure they will match the Royals energy given their game last night.

GL on your action today.
I could not agree more. The Kings will be playing this game as hard as they have for any game in the entire season. The fans will be rabid, the Lakers have looked really poor recently, etc. I expect a win for the Kings or an extremely close nip and tuck game all the way through. All of the intangibles here in this spot favor the Kings.

Yeah possibly. I just don't see the Hornets doing anything. Plus the line move from -9.5 to -10.5 was enough for me to make a play there.
The Lakers...yeah, I'm not so sure yet. With the way Odom was talking after the game and Kobe's competitiveness, I wouldn't be surprised if they would go out and grab the #2 seed tonight. We shall see...this one is a 'no play' right now.

yeah possibly. The fact that this team is MOST likely moving to Anaheim though has to be a factor as well. Will the fans really be 'rabid' knowing that the Kings are moving? (most likely). Not so sure. If Dallas wins, I see the Lakers taking care of business. The line is definitely moving in YOUR favor, so some SHARP dudes out there must be on the same page with you regarding this game. We shall see. I still got plenty of time to decide whether or not to play this one

Here's how Odom was talking after Sunday's loss on twitter: ""What up West coast? Tough loss, but I promise u we got dis.Who's ready 2 watch the premiere of #khloeandLamar?""
Lamar seems like he doesn't give a **** if you ask me.

GL buddy
Bodio, I very rarely say this, but I'm nearly 100% certain the fans will be rabid tonight. Sacramento loves the Kings, and people who are coming to this final game will be the diehards who want to say they were there for the last game. Add in that it is the Lakers they are facing? That's all I need to know.

Like all your plays except Lakers because on a b2b after seeing Bynum go down I really don't think the coaching staff is gonna risk another injury- like GS if Curry plays- no TPups?

This is so true. I have to layoff though because the Lakers won't be taking this game lightly like they did last night.. especially with Bynum's status up in the air the lakers cannot be content with playing against Portland in round 1
