I just witnessed the worst 1st quarter beat in the history of NBA basketball

My sympathy goes out to anyone who had their rent money on the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1st quarter at Atlanta.  The Blazers led by 7 points with 15 seconds left....and lost the quarter.

Joe Johnson hit a jumper from the free throw line with 13 seconds left to make it 18-13.  Jeff Teague then stole the inbounds pass and wound up getting fouled underneath the hoop.  He sank one of two at the line to make it 18-14.  Teague then stole the inbounds pass again, this time near midcourt, and raced in for a dunk to make it 18-16 with 3.7 seconds left.  Jarron Collins, inbounding the ball for Portland, then threw a bad pass up the sideline that Teague intercepted, and then Teague flung up a three from the corner that ripped through the net at the buzzer to put the Hawks ahead.  Unbelievable.  Three steals in a row in the last 13 seconds by the same guy who then scored every time to absolutely bury Portland 1st quarter backers.

Tough beat brother.

I play alot of first qtrs. so I know this must have been especially tough. The good thing is that you were obviously on the right side if the Blazers were up by 7 with 13 to go.

Its like reggies miraculous points.

Just got finished writing up a post on ESPN  message board of how nice the line was without Horford in and then the 8 point run goes off!!!

That 1st quarter bad beat tonight in Atlanta was much worse than either of the two links you posted.  In one, someone threw in a shot from beyond midcourt to force overtime, and in the other some scrub picked up a technical with one second left.  Sure, those are both salty, but what happened in Atlanta tonight at the end of the 1st quarter was a bonafide miracle for anyone who had the Hawks Pk in the 1st quarter.

Do you guys think that as humans evolve, faster, stronger, taller etc etc, the game itself will become to easy for offenses?

I mean, we know track times will always come down, etc etc

Will the hoop be too big for players down the track?

I mean, i have noticed percentages are way way up, or is it because teams dont play or care about defens anymore?

Judging by the lack of outrage in this thread, it seems very few people had 1st quarter action on the Blazers. No action for me on that one but what an absolutely brutal beat. No disrespect to the thread but I would like to share my frustration with what I feel was a particularly painful kick to the nuts tonight compliments of J.R. Smith. 

I had the 2nd half under 104.5 -105 in Denver tonight and felt cautiously optimistic with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, a 19 point Suckits lead, and 63 points to spare. Then, that good-for-nothing stat-chasing-person J.R. Smith went to work and attempted 14 shots, 11 of which were behind the arc(including a 41 foot attempt with a 30 point lead and 1 second on the clock). He scored 21 points in the fourth quarter while his team was cruising. Additionally, this selfish prick jacked many of his 3s with 20 ticks on the shotclock. While watching this nightmare unfold, I felt certain that Smith checked his cellphone at the half to see what the 2nd half total was set at and maniacally proceeded to single-handedly screw 2nd half under backers. What othe r explanation is there for this guy to incessantly shoot the ball when victory is certain?
J.R. Smith has officially made my list of impertinent no-good f*ck-wits. Thanks for reading, my psychiatrists aren't available latenight and I needed to blow off some steam.
