Start of the new season and time to get to work. I ran a successful thread last year on picking Overs/Unders Games.

I'm going to try and get into the Money lines this year abit more and will assess the Overs/Unders as soon as the season settles in and I can work out the playbook of the NBA coaches.

Alot of changes to teams so going to be wise and keep my money in my pocket for the moment.

Good Luck if u bet on the opening bames

Here are some plays I will put in for minimal stakes and parlayed at +500

Miami Heat/Boston UNDER 188.5
Houston/LA Lakers UNDER 195.5
Phoenix/Portland OVER 202.5

Boston plays slow tempo for Shaq and will play intense D on Heat
Houston plays slow tempo away with Yao
Suns are poor defensively still. Portland run riot

Hi Gator11 and Sportsgirl22. Just doing some homework on the League.

Going to take some time figuring the teams. playbooks and chemistry with so many huge franchise changes.

Trying to see the sleepers here but I like OKC to contest the West with Houston this year against the Lakers. Houston looks very balanced.

The East - well no doubt Celtics and Heat but possibly Chicago could be a surprise

Great to be back btw and to hear from everyone

I will run my Picks here or on a new thread. Serious stuff starts in 2 weeks by my guesstimate but I will provide some plays I will take but only for small stakes.

Great to see everyone again too

Will be doing guesstimates for the moment and run some small plays here. May start a new thread in 2 weeks once I work out the Teams in the League.

Also thinking about focussing on using 4 Teams only for Overs and Unders. Hard work keeping tabs on all teams.

What do u guys think?

Great choice - already 33 points in 6 minutes. There wont be any D played by Phoenix as usual.

Good Luck to u too pal.

It worked well for me...

I suppose thats what I was expecting from Houston - fairly balanced team now that the workload on Aaron Brooks is lifted with Kevin Martin's acquisition as an OG. This provides Houston with 2 quick outside threats while they can still get the inside penetration through Brooks.

Im not surprised the Lakers are struggling. They got their mind on those lovely rings they received pre-match and they are somewhat looking hyped up more than what they are worth. I'd say Kobe is playing hurt and has made little impact.

The Lakers are going to be tested this year and I think they are worth fading against good teams.....or even bad teams

I think one of my Playbooks is going to have to be NOT PLAY LAKERS GAMES OR OVERS/UNDERS especially at Forum.

Lakers are just one of the most arrogant teams in the NBA with no respect for opposition's offense. They are lazy as well - especially Bynum and Odom who do not play any Defense and let players have good looks at the basket. Their protection of the ball is poor too as they are always looking to shoot.

Lakers are reliant on Kobe. He is hurt and he wont be performing for much of the start of this season

OK Guys - here is whats going to happen in the 2nd Half.

The Lakers are going to go to the locker room and Phil Jackson is going to sit on his gravity undefying behind and do nothing. he will leave it to the players to sort it out themselves.

But seriously - Lakers will emphasise Defense and will try and cut the margin by ball protection, better shot selection etc etc

Houston needs to still run but I think the key to Houston is the tempo - if they can keep it slow, this will catch out the slack Lakers Defense.

I dont think there will be more than 98 scored in the 2nd Half (I dont know what line is) unless the Lakers start getting into junk time mind and depreciate the quality of the game

Only 1 selection I can work out is:

LA Clippers v Portland Trailblazers

Selection: UNDER 191.5

Portland comes off a dour affair with Phoenix who pushed them all the way until the last 4 minutes when Portland took the lead for good and appeared to win comfortably. They shot 46% (93 Attempts) including 10 x 3 pointers. I think they exceeded 100 points mainly as Phoenix are not a defensive unit

Del Negro has called for the Clips to be more resolute on Defense and scrap wins. What does this say? They will be getting down and dirty today and try and blow the Trailblazers away and off their feet while controlling the tempo.

The Clippers will introduce Blake Griffin. This is going to be interesting to see if he fulfills the promise so many are expecting. I think he will do just fine defensively and will limit the Trailblazers at the post.

Expect a very slow and dull game to develop here with the scoreline being at around 90-85. Hope Clips WIN !

But a win is a win.

Clippers are just too poor defensively and turn ball too much. Happening too regularly. They need to learn to ground out games which will mean scores will need to be low.

Clippers need to isolate teams to Under 90 points else they will not win.

Clippers definitely the UNDERS team for the year.

Orlando Magic  v Washington Wizards

Selection: UNDER 191.5

It is always hard to assess teams given they haven't even stepped out on Court. But this looks undeniably an easier tip than others.

Orlando travel to Miami next day. I don't think they will look to expend energy in making this too much of a tussle and really, who have Washington got that could threaten them.

The Magic will look to play solid Defense and blow out Washington early ensuring their starterd get bench time in the 4th Quarter.

Obviously could become junk but i just cannot see Washington shooting well and they dont have Arenas for the Game and Antoine Jamison is gone.

Once again minimal stakes only is the smart choice until the Season gets into 2nd gear

I like it, i know it was only pre season, but Magic were very very stingy with there D........

Wizards without Arenas will struggle to score i believe.....

The only X factor with the Magic is there 3's...If they are hot, they can easily nail 15 '3s in a game, esecially with Q now in the magic uniform......put heaps of pressure on the total
