Here we go again with some kid thinking he knows more than he thinks. IF you want to go by the numbers well pull up a seat and let me show you a thing or 2.
2006 season: Cleveland with a young Lebron James at the helm ranked 6th in the league in defensive ppg at 92.9 at a .448% shooting clip
2007 season: Cleveland off a Finals appearance was 9th in the NBA in defensive ppg at a dismal 96.7 ppg at a .455% shooting clip
2008 season: Cleveland RANKS 1ST in the NBA holding teams to 91.4 ppg and a .431% shooting clip
2009 season: Cleveland ranks dips to 6th and holds teams to 95.6 ppg and a .442% shooting clip
My original argument was purely based on the amount of games AT HOME where the road team has scored over 100 points. Now most Championship caliber teams like to keep goals defensively and Im pretty sure holding teams to 100 or less at home is at the top of this list.
Last year the Cavs held teams to 91.4 ppg and gave up 100 points or more 4 times out of 41 games AT HOME. They gave up 107 to Indiana (with the help of a 73 points 4th quarter due in part to late game fouling) in the 6th game of the season. They gave up 101 to the Lakers in a loss. 110 to Sacramento and 111 in the last game of the season with their B-squad playing against the Sixers in an OT loss.
This year (2009 campaign) the Cavs have given up 100 or more points 11 times. Let me repeat this....they have given up 100 or more 11 times at home (almost 3X as many as last year). Now lets put this in retrospect, in the 2007 season when the Cavs ranked 9th in the league in defensive ppg they gave up 100 or more points at home 11 times (9 of them in losses). The year after 4 times and this year back to 11. Now if thats not lackluster based on the information given and being ranked #1 to #6 isnt lackluster (when talking in regards to this team and what they are capable of) then I dont know what is.
In caparison...The Celtics have under achieved all year long and have lost more games at home then on the road yet ranked 5th in defensive ppg. So what does stats tell us, because every other game the C's where giving up 100 or more at home, so because they ranked 5h overall they were amazing defensively?
