Why do you think it is a stupid name? Oklahoma Thunder is ok with me but I picked one of a few good names like Oklahoma Boomers, Oklahoma Drillers, Oklahoma Gunslingers, Oklahoma Outlaws, Oklahoma Roughers, or Oklahoma Stallions...

Texan , All good suggestions on your part . We here in OKC are ready for this team and will adopt any name . I like Thunder as it implies power and explosiveness . It also lends itself to many variations , Thunderdome for the arena , Thunderdog for a mascot and various other good runoffs .Boomers was a little too close to the OU Sooners and OUtlaws was distasteful to many . Thunder will be accepted by everyone over time , same as Hornets , Jazz , Sonics , Lakers etc.. I mean how did they ever come up with Lakers ?? I bet there was a lot of people upset with that pick for a long time , but now it seems perfect .

The Lakers use to play in Minneapolis up by the Great Lakes. That's where they got their name from. When they moved to LA they never changed it. How about the OKC Twisters instead of Thunder.

good stuff mule236. As I was reading PEQ1234 I was feeling my blood pressure rise. I mean come on, do a little homework before you sound stupid. In the information super highway and ability to search so easily for almost anything why make a general stupid statement like why are the LA Lakers called the Lakers - people must have been upset then but now it seems perfect. Actually, why does it sound perfect now? Do you know of any LA lakes? Have you seen LA? Anyway, you got there faster than me mule and I would say a tad bit kinder. ok, that said, why do they call the Utah team the Jazz. There is no Jazz in Utah. It is too cold for Jazz in Utah. But it seems perfect now. HAHHAHA
