#1 Posted: 2/16/2008 4:20:34 PM I am thinking of moving to Vegas by the end of this year and was curious what the transportation was like. Driving to and from the casinos, paring etc. What are the shuttles like and the bus systems?

#5 Posted: 2/20/2008 9:54:44 AM I would be careful about the move, very transient and super nasty people live out there.
Imo, there are so many people that live in LV that simply have not 'made it' in life and just picked up and moved to the glitz and glamour of the 24/7 city. |

#6 Posted: 2/20/2008 1:24:42 PM I lived there LV a while ago but I doubt there have been large migrations out of town or major infastrusture improvments so I'll bet transportion problems have only gotten more crowded and worse. Taxis are everywhere but you have to call or catch at hotel. Buses are funky and irregular and at busy times crowded and on the Strip 2-3 will pass you at the bus-stop because they are full. LV Boulavard is always humming am/pm and a lot of the drivers DON"T know where they want to go. On a Friday evening, I use to be able to walk from the Sahara to the Stardust faster then you could drive because LV Blvd was more like a parking lot then a thru-fare.

NY drivers are among the best...they just are too aggressive. Big difference. |

Depends on where you live. I live in Summerlin and work in Henderson. It's exactly 20 miles from my home to work - it takes me 30 minutes during rush hour. Not bad, if you ask me. To be honest, that's pretty damned good, and I'd bet it beats similar commutes in most other cities.
I can also get to the strip or downtown (10 miles) at any time of the the day or night in 20 minutes.
Also, it just cracks me up when I read the opinions of Vegas from people who have only came here to visit, or worse yet, from what they've "heard." It's just laughable.
I know, I know NJD, you didn't like it here, and that's cool and I respect that. But, I do like it here. My wife does also, so that helps. I never try to defend any place I live, because people already have preconcieved notions, and like to express them, expecially on message boards, so I'm not going to get into it with anyone.
From the limited time I've used it, the bus system CAT is just fine off the strip, with regular time intervals. I've ridden it a few times already. I had a friend who used to live here and didn't have a car. Granted, he didn't live out in Summerlin or down in Rhodes Ranch, but he said it was great. It was his only transportation. |

#14 Posted: 2/26/2008 12:21:55 AM Just got back from Vegas yesterday. If you have transportation, take Tropicana east from the strip and look for Arville go left, you can avoid driving the strip. Sportsbooks Hilton or Caesars ( try not going to any Leroys ...there odds can be over inflated.) Best Friday afternoon buffet...Rio's All you can eat seafood buffet...get there by 3 to 4 pm or you can expect to stand in line for 1-2 hours. All day ride pass on the strip on rail $ 9 per person. Depending were you're going faster and cheaper than cabs and also keep in mind that several casinos have free van shuttles between casinos .Ask any bell hop or bell desk or hotel information operator who has this free service. Hope this helps. |

If you travel east on Tropicana from the strip you'll never come to Arville because Arville is west of the strip. Also there are better alternatives than Arville like Industrial & Frank Sinatra. Another one who thinks they know Vegas. |
