Be careful with those GrandCanyon tours by air, those things crash more then you want to know and DO NOT try that indoor simulation of skydive with a jet engine and a wind chamber, they keep a room of crutches cause of broken ankles. Besides that Good Luck and don't break a leg.

Thanks for the advice 666Les!!!

I was at the MGM almost all day yesterday. The casino/hotel itself is HUGE! The sportsbook is not so large but it is long. The cocktail waitress is energetic and keeps everyone in drinks. $100 wager gets you two comp drinks. 2 extra large screens and 2 dozen other screens make watching Saturday hoops a pleasure. The seating comfort is comparable to the LVH but not quite as comfortable as the Aria. All the usual perks here... mens room and cafes nearby, outlet available on the wall to charge my phone which was much needed since I was there for about 8 hours. I left at about 430p to head to the Thomas & Mack Center to watch UNLV handle the Lobos. If you can plan it during your visit, be sure to catch a Runnin' Rebels game. It was quite enjoyable and it was an opportunity to see and talk with some of the local people that are not affiliated with the strip. Keep in mind, Las Vegas is more than what we think, see and feel when we even just simply hear the words "Las Vegas". It's a real town just like Jacksonville, FL or Asheville, NC or Syracuse, NY. It has real people with real lives that have nothing to do with the casinos, the gambling, the shows, the girls, the strip and all of that. Depending on the length of your stay, take some time to get to know the actual city and its people. You'll be glad that you did.

Headed back to MGM today...can my Hoosiers bounce back? On the road in this conference is a tall order. I'm laying off of it myself. I am keeping an eye on Oregon State at home vs. Colorado though. I like that matchup.

Good luck with your plays!!!

And you know it by now... HAVE RULES AND OBEY THEM!!!

I went to Caesar's Palace last night. 6 extra large screens, huge wide open area, extremely high ceilings, seating is only mildly comfortable. I had the $18 mahi mahi and fries from the Muchie Bar. I had plenty of comp drink cards although the seating arrangement makes it difficult on the cocktail waitress, I was still able to enjoy 5 or 6 drinks during the 2 college basketball games that I watched. I most likely will not return to this book just because Aria, LVH and even MGM are so much better in my opinion.

Headed to LA today to catch a Lakers game. If you're in Vegas for more than a few days, I recommend flying to LA for a day (or more). My round trip ticket was $73...

Good luck with your plays and remember...

Just a day trip Joey. Game, atmosphere, concessions, Laker Girls were all GREAT!!!

I went downtown to Fremont Street today. I visited Binions, Fremont Casino, Golden Nugget, The D and a few others...
LET ME SAVE YOU SOME TIME   THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING APPEALING OR ADVANTAGEOUS ABOUT ANY OF THE CASINOS AND/OR SPORTS BOOKS DOWNTOWN. DON'T EVEN BOTHER!!!!!

That's all for today. Just as a recap:

Books I will return to:

LVH
ARIA
BELLAGIO
MGM
CAESAR's PALACE

...with the top two being my favorites (LVH and ARIA)

I do prefer the strip and places like Gold Coast and the Orleans, but the downtown area has it's place.  I wouldn't completely bash it. The ability to shop lines in a small area is great.  Also, when we go with a group, we always have a few low-rollers, so with limits being lower on table games, downtown is a great place where we can always get a craps or bj table together for a respectable minimum bet.

I will agree, the sportsbooks themselves aren't the best and wouldn't be the first place I'd go to watch the games.

The people watching and laser light shows at night are worth a trip down there, though.

Either way, good luck man

You should definitely go see the Clippers!

I am going to San Fran next weekend; I have tickets for the Spurs/Warriors game on Friday night. If anyone has any tips for what to do on Saturday in SF, let me know.

Sam's Town sports book is very nice IMO!  You are quite right about the downtown books being kinda dumpy but it is home for lots Hawaii folks on trips from the islands.  Not so much technology and comps but for most of us guys it will do.  Was there many times to clean up when Boise St. Was always killing Hawaii past few Octobers.  Made some money with NYY in the WS that trip too.  One trip the book was so crowded at the Cal with people went over to Triple Seven in Main St. station Casino and they have so many screens but did not have the Hawaii game on.  Other games like ND or Alabama, etc.  I find that on line has way more betting options than casino books.  Way more wagering options and props, cross sport wagers, money line plays or parlays, teasers, five inning bets, over/unders, half-time, full game, etc.

You are right about that Shadow Warrior... many more options online and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I personally like the option of making 2H ML wagers on basketball but that is rarely available at any of the Vegas books. I came to Vegas hoping to gain a perspective that might provide me with some much needed discipline in my wagering practices. I have learned a lot and I think that I will gain what I've come to find.

No NBA for a few days but Friday night CBB is always interesting.

Good luck with your plays!

Are you learning just through the experience itself, or are you chatting up all the locals and stuff and learning from the people?

J-walk: I pretty much stay to myself as far as making my choices and plays. Most of the folks in the books appear to be out-of-towners and I've overheard some of their conversations. They sound like some of the clowns on here based on how I hear they are making their decisions.

I am learning from the experience of taking a pocket full of $100's up to a counter    and actually counting them out and handing them over to another living, breathing person. It is quite different than going online, hidden behind a computer monitor and laying digital money so to speak on a game. I am spending time each night and morning studying and looking for 1-3 plays per day that I consider to be my chance of making a profit for that day. I review my rules that I have written out as often as I find necessary. I have been able to obey my rules on almost every play since I got here almost two weeks ago. That is a victory all by itself. That's the discipline that I hoped to gain by being here. I'm glad I came. I have two more weeks. I'm up (I almost hate to say it)  big right now and I hope to make even more before I leave. I am actually glad  it's the All-Star break for NBA. That gives me less games to study and review. It has not been easy  but it has been fun doing what I love. The age old question on this site, and others like it, is "Can a person really make a living wagering on sports?". My answer to that is a resounding yes. But you must...

HAVE RULES AND OBEY THEM!!!

Saturdays are always busy. Good luck with your plays ladies and gentlemen.

Hung out at the LVH all day today. LVH is quickly becoming my favorite book to be at and here is why:

1. competitive lines and many betting options.
2. comfortable seating in a non-smoking area (The Fan Cave)
3. comp drinks just by showing betting slip (no cards necessary, no limit)
4. outlet to charge my cell phone all day
5. large screens, cozy atmosphere
6. easy bus ride to and from my apartment

I had another huge day today. Shout out to Train69 for giving me Providence that started my day off right. I had to recover from taking Ball State but that was not a problem with consecutive winners on:
Air Force +4 , UNLV -3 2H, AZ State +7 and UNM ML.

I hate posting winners after the fact and I won't do it on a regular basis but I want to give you guys an idea of what I am wagering on.

HAVE RULES AND OBEY THEM and I promise you will be profitable!

Thanks Donkbot! Nice meeting one of the locals!

LVH is my default place to go people. I stopped by there tonight but I just did not feel good about any of the lines. How about those Fighting Irish!?! Wow! Anyway, LVH is just the all around best place to make wagers (good lines, plenty of options), watch the game(s) in comfort, comp drinks that keep coming and they also have a players card that I need to check into while here on this visit. Also, I met Dave Winfield there tonight! He was sitting at the coffee shop near the front lobby area with his wife and daughter. Nice guy, big smile, humble demeanor...real athlete, great athlete with real numbers without the juice.

Other than that, I went to Boulder City today and jumped from a frickin' plane!!! REALLY COOL! YOU'VE GOT TO DO IT!

Really appreciate the updates because my wife and I are planning a Vegas trip in Oct. This wil be my first visit so your insight is a big help.

Can you makes any recommendations for eating options. We're looking for other options beside the restaurants and buffets located in the resorts. Do you have any diner type suggestions.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Hey Marko! To be honest, since I'm here by myself I've not gone to any restaurants. There are quite a selection for sure. I will ask around to see if I can get any tips in that regard.

For those curious, here are a couple of my rules/reminders to live by:

HOME DOGS ARE PROFITABLE
ROAD FAVORITES ARE COSTLY

Good luck with your plays today! Go easy on NBA with it just starting back up!

Hung out at LVH again this afternoon and evening. There are definitely some regulars. I haven't asked any details but in the coming days (I only have 7 days left actually in Vegas) I will try to get some information from some of these regulars as far as why they come to LVH, are they doing this for extra money or is their means of earning a living, etc. I fly to SF Friday morning and then back to Vegas on Sunday. So updates will be next week.

Another rule I live by...

STRAIGHT BETS ARE RELIABLE, TRUE, DEPENDABLE AND PROFITABLE. PARLAYS ARE A FOOLS BET. *

*I understand that parlays can be fun. But limit your losses because you will lose most parlays. Do them ONLY for fun, when you are way ahead and LIMIT YOUR LOSSES!*
