I think Rumble has a great chance if he fights smart and uses his wrestling to beat Vitor but im not sure of this fight because Rumble is stepping up in weight to fight a tough guy here..

What is his best win ever? Dan Hardy? A guy in which he wrestled for the win.
Vitor is no slouch in the wrestling department. Is he considered a wrestler? No, but he has solid wrestling with a BJJ game.
As for striking, Vitor would KO Rumble in teh first round if he were to stand. Johnson has never fought a good striker, let alone a guy with boxing like Vitor. Some of the better boxing in the UFC.
So I don't really get it. Sure Rumble is a big guy who seems exciting to watch. But he hasn't beat anyone good. He hasn't out struck a decent striker. I don't see one career defining fight for him.
If it is standing I go Belfort all day. If Rumble tries to wrestle...I don't know. He was rag dolled around by Kos. Who is to say how good his wrestling is when he rarely uses it? Wrestling Dan Hardy doesn't really prove anything.
At the small price it is now, I'll take the guy who has been in there with top fighters. Who has more tools and better hands. And more experience.

I'll admit sometimes looking at "who guys have beat" in their careers gets me in trouble.
I just don't see Rumble being the better striker for once in his life. And I don't know how he will deal with it. ANd no one can say exactly how good his wrestling is. It is at least solid, but I'm thinking it isn't a big level of wrestling. Vitor has been around long enough to see it all.
As just seen with the last card Cerrone vs. Diaz.
Good boxer > Good kickboxer.
Plus this is in Brazil. Last time in Brazil the Brazilians basically swept the card.

a washed up franklin and overrated akiyama are belforts only good wins since 2004...so i wouldn't necessarily discount johnson because of the fact that he doesn't have any big wins.

A washed up Franklin and Sexyama are still 3x the strikers and 3x more dangerous than anyone Rumble has seen in his career at 170lbs.
Dan Hardy? Kevin Burns? Charlie Brenneman? Really? Fights where Rumble absolutely dwarfed them?
Vitor has proven amazing boxing. He is a natural boxer who still posses the hand speed. We just saw a superior boxer beat a kickboxer when Diaz beat down Cerrone.
It will happen again in this match. They will strike. Vitor will come in fast and catch Johnson. Rumble's striking is no where near the level of Vitor's hands. He will have to try and wrestle him for periods of time to win.
It almost the product of hype that got Dan Hardy the title shot. Looks good in beating no one. Gets the rep of a devastating striker. And really isn't that good. At least Rumble has more options with his wrestling though.
One guy was just training to get in the cage with a striker like Anderson Silva. The other guy has been training his whole career to enter the cage with guys like Kevin Burns and Dan Hardy.

Also, Johnson said yesterday that he was at 215lbs and it is perfect for right now.
I'm not so sure. He looked huge in a pic I saw. I know he is used to cutting a lot. But 30lbs in around 12 days seems drastic. Perhaps he underestimated the cut to 185 thinking it would be easy.

LOVE Johnson in this fight. No one has pushed Belfort in quite awhile.. and those that were able to, beat him (see Overeem, Henderson, Couture, Tito)
Johnson will for sure bring his wrestling. Like others have pointed out, if he was willing to smother Hardy, he'll definitely be wanting to try the same against a guy like Belfort. True he did floor Hardy with a head kick first, and that COULD happen here, but he's not going to play around on the feet for too long in the first round. This is his big chance.. and it would be a huge win, because Vitor is a pretty big name right now but he's still very beatable, just no one has had the right style to do it for a few years.
He's going to crush him against the cage and try to take him down. He's going to have the cardio at 185. Then I think after he has Vitor tired, he'll catch him with something standing or just flat-out pound him into unconsciousness from top position.
I'm going with big plays on Rumble straight up, and ITD at +339

I cant believe that this line is so close. I figured Vitor would be at least -200.
if you take into consideration that the fight is in Brazil, you can make an argument that the current odds are actually even money. rumble has to deal with the flight, time change, food acclimation, hometown crowd and other possible intangibles. he has also never fought outside the US.
vitor is always a tough pick but i cant see any value with rumble at anything under +150.

I like Rumble to win this one with his wrestling. Vitor has always been a threat, but when guys put enough pressure on him, he breaks down. Vitor needs to finish it in the 1st round or he'll gas and is likely done. Rumble is still improving and I think he has enough tools to win against the vet.

Vitor all the way, and that fools been training with the GSP Squad this entire fight camp, so i really dont think that their is any threat the aj will be posing to vitor
