The 49ers selected their QB -- Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard.

In the 3rd round??? Wow.

Folks, I don't know who here watched Iowa pla last year but if he went undrafted, not a single poster here or Iowa fan would be surprised. None of us thought he was NFL talent. Not even a grab in the final rounds. The third!!! A real head-scratcher....!

As a former 9er fan, I'll give them credit for the first 3 picks in the first two rounds..................but............this is a head scratcher. The SIXTH BEST Qb in round Three?

When they got rid of Harbaugh, I got rid of the Niners. Great job since then, York.

Upon further review, this is really a bad pick.

Found a Draft Tracker, and let's take a look at how these quarterbacks compare.

Nathan Peterman from Pitt (via Florida) would have been a better pick. Graduate transfer after three years, check these out:

Nathan Peterman compares to:       Kirk Cousins

C.J. Beathard compares to.............Tom Savage

I heard Mike Lombardi talking up Peterman on Bill Simmons podcast. I was intrigued. Then I remembered Mike Lombardi's failed run in the NFL.

As far as the Niners pick, I just remember the Iowa offense being putrid most weeks. I don't know if the QB just had no weapons. But, I feel like they had a hard time moving the ball.

When Di bartolo got removed that franchise went down hill every year until now we have demolished great franchise that has so many HOF ers i lost count.
QB's Montana, Young , Defendewr Ronnie LOTT , WR Rice and taylor

and Owens cant remeber all of them off top of my haed but there are many more.

You ever heard of Tom Brady....He averaged 200 yards a game passing in his Junior and Senior years @ Michigan.  Sometimes the system does not fit the player and Iowa was clearly not a passing team to showcase his QB talent.

Tom Brady

Yeah I've heard of him I think.

Have you seen beathard play. Not a backup. A starter. The entire season. He was awful except against Purdue maybe.

There is zero chance those scouts watched his games this year. I'm figuring he had a tremendous combine and they just based the pick off that.

Y'all didn't even address the worse part.  Not only is he marginal at best to where he probably should not have been drafted at all, they clearly could have easily waited if they really liked the guy

He had a pretty good year two years ago when Iowa went to the Rose Bowl.  He went through college in a pro style system and played in the Big10 started for 3 or 4 years.  Idk seems like hammering this pick as awful is a bit of an overreaction.
