If you link to this video you will watch an NBC reporter take a football poke it with the needle used to pump up a football and in several seconds the ball is deflated to where 11 of the 12 New England footballs were at halftime of their last game.
Since 2006 the NFL made a rule change allowing each offense to control 12 balls. So.......imagine for a second a quarterback who liked the ball deflated 2 pounds under the league minimum 12.5 pounds, how hard would it be to do so? A towel over the ball, a pin pushed into the ball for just a second or two, psst. There you go. Incidentally USC was caught doing this in a game against Oregon.
Now bear with me, I am not jumping on one side or the other on this. We have had enough ignorant comments here at covers from people who are just guessing that Brady cheated, or that this is all overblown,
What happens next?
At least a week after the Super Bowl a report will be handed out in a press release by the NFL, WHOM IS PAYING FOR THIS REPORT AND CAN EDIT IT ANYWAY THEY SO CHOOSE BEFORE IT IS GIVEN TO THE PRESS. You will never hear that. You will never be told that, you will be lied to. The NFL will reedit the report any way they choose and then they will lie and say this is the whole story, the complete truth.
That is because the NFL royally screwed up in allowing this rule change in the first place, If teams that had quarterbacks that really liked under deflated footballs have been doing this for years, will they admit it?
Of course not. Godell the commissioner of the NFL completely screwed the pooch in allowing this rule change. And he will edit the report he paid for to place himself and the NFL in the best light possible. THIS IS'N"T A JUDGE TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED, IT IS A REPORT PAID FOR BY THE NFL.
Let's make as close an analogy as we can. Let's say it is 2016 and this is the World Series. A pitcher was caught scuffing the balls in the play offs. But back in 2006 a rule change had occurred allowing the pitching team to control all the balls the pitcher was using.
Who gets the blame in a report paid for and reedited by the league.
A. the equipment manager B. the pitcher C. the manager D. the league that allowed the rule change E. nobody is to blame
We shall see but it doesn't take a prophet to rule out D.

aaron rodgers said he overinflates balls and sends it to refs for inspection knowing most dont do anything other than squeeze them a bit
that is probably what the patriots did. balls were not underinflated by 2 pounds like first reported. that same report said dquell jackson brought it to the refs attention which was also false.
seems obvious the refs did not do their jobs again and that is why the nfl is still "investigating." they dont want this coming out when all the attention is on them.

My mind works v e r y s l o w l y......so this just occurred to me.
* the OBVIOUS call here would be the NFL to immediately
step in and rule on the matter....or say "no penalty this
season.....we're investigating / any penalties if any will
be next season / 2016 draft ".........DONE
So why didn't they?....they can't be THAT stupid can they?
IF....we weren't talking about deflate-gate.....any guesses what the topic of discussion (might) be?........
*you got it > BEATING WOMEN and CHILDREN
note: this topic is really bad for bizness..............
A better way?
*if you want to let QB's adjust the balls to their liking....who TF cares how much air the balls have?.....> pressure couldn't be adjusted in-game of course....
*or....stay with current guidelines (12.5 - 13.5 or so) and strictly enforce the rule > adjustment beyond limits = FORFEIT
*OR.....all teams play with the same balls.....always in control
by referees..........wow what an idea !
Humble when ambitious - gracious when successful - resilient when you fail.

Interesting that the same private detectives which did the same, pardon the expression, bang up job, on the Ray Rice public relations fiasco by writing a report that tried hard to sweep that crazy story under the carpet have been employed to once again write a report that sweeps this nasty PR story under the carpet once again.
The NFL got away with proclaiming "OK! We have investigated the matter and we found we did nothing wrong! No sir, the NFL has no responsibility in covering up the film in our possession that clearly shows our employee Ray Rice beating a women unconscious in an elevator! Now move along, nothing to see here. We have conducted a fact finding mission on this sordid little issue and wouldn't you know it, the report that we paid for and were able to edit before we handed it over to the public found the NFL was guilty of absolutely no wrong doing!"
Now I love football and by no means bear any ill will towards the NFL. But Godell, the commissioner of the NFL is a stooge for the billionaire owners and he is incompetent. He is a fool to let these various issues get to the point where they have. The concussion issue has also been ridiculously handled. The owners of these NFL teams didn't get to be billionaires by being fools or tolerating their employees being fools. I have to conclude that there are some vicious fights going on behind closed doors between the owners to keep or dump Godell.
A loyal supporter and close friend of Godell is the owner of the New England Patriots. That alone has to be throwing gasoline on the actual behind closed doors arguments going on between NFL owners over deflate gate.
