No, not on crack. Just think that he is smart enough to realize that they wouldn't be there with him starting. It's one thing to be driven to start, which I agree all NFL players should aspire to do. But, let's be realistic and honest with yourself.
Now if the question were "Should Alex Smith stay as the backup to SF next year", I would agree with you saying I was on crack if I said he should accept that. He, as all NFL players, should want to start. After all, if Mark freaking Sanchez can start, then anyone can start (although Sanchez' weapons were absolutely horrible).
