The Philadelphia Eagles just hired Chip Kelly, former Oregon Ducks head coach to be their new head coach.

Chip Kelly is known for his relentless offense in college, which incorporated a lot of no-huddle and continuous pressure.

In my opinion, with the way the head coach hunt was going in Philly, this is a huge signing.  I can't even begin to imagine what they're going to pay him, but after he was taken off the table and said he was committed to staying at Oregon after a great offer there.

But, it was do or die time in Philadelphia, and they DID.  I'm not an Eagles fan at all, but I'm happy they made this signing.

So, with his style of offense, is Nick Foles or Mike Vick a better starter, or do they go outside and hire a free agent, make a trade, or even draft a quarterback who can learn a new system.

Vick seems like the obvious choice initially, but the biggest thing you need for this style of play is a quarterback who can play a 16 game season, and Vick hasn't shown that he can do that over the past few years.

Anyways, not sure if people had heard, and I know people probably only care about this upcoming weekend right now, just curious what bettors thought about this moving into free agency.

Cheers,
 - Jimmus

that's a shame.  first, because college football is already a mess with their ridiculous bcs nonsense and now the most exciting coach is gone until he's a complete failure in philly and comes back.

two, he will be a complete failure in the nfl along the lines of spurrier.

three, i'm sure philly way overpaid for him.

everyone loses here-  kelly, the eagles, the fans, oregon.

Love it, Vick can not run the Offense not smart enough. Like the fact that Kelly knows a lot of college players coming out the next couple of years. Big changes coming the next couple of years.

I 100% agree that it's a big loss for college football, and that Philly likely overpaid him.

However, for Kelly, I'm POSITIVE he thought of every option and possibility before taking this job, including the fact that he COULD fail in Philly.

With that in mind, I personally believe that getting a good defensive coordinator signed is his most important move!  It's tough to adapt from College to NFL, no matter how you did in College.  The hardest part is building your coaching staff (I would guess at least), and in the case of the Eagles, you NEED a solid 'basics first' minded defense.

Just my thoughts.

I Don't see how Vick can run this offense without getting injured repeatedly.

There are also many holes on the defensive side of the ball: linebacker, corner, and safety.

Who is he going to bring in as defensive coordinator?

That being said Kelly's football mind excites me.  Just need the quarterback to do it and I don't think Vick or Foles can run that offense.

kelly obviously will make big money here although with oregon's backing, he could make big money there.  my guess is he will regret this because i don't think he'll do well in the nfl.  it's one thing if he was going to seattle or another decent organization but i think philly is a terrible place to go- coach killer at qb, garbage organization (lately), dysfunctional, underachieving team that doesn't give a garbage.  philly fans will be skeptical of a college coach and the huge salary he's probably getting.  philly fans will be a little different than eugene fans.

this looks like a disaster to me.  but we will see.

When a college coach has a championship calibre team and then suddenly leaves that means some sanctions are coming soon to Oregon. Remember Pete Caroll did the same thing when he left USC for his second stint in the NFL.

that would be a different story and i wouldn't be surprised although

transfer to head coach of East Oregon A & M Technical Institute at $50,000/year >  head coach of eagles for $30 million

We need to wait and see, Eagles seem to be changing with the NFL and the way the game is being played. Remember this is the first coaching change in 14 yrs, not bad for an organization. All will be on the front office and how they draft. Heres hoping they get it right.

definitely need to wait and see.  that's just my opinion which obviously could be way off.  plus, oregon is my favorite team to watch and i'm sad to see him leave, although i suspect they'll hire someone from the inside and hopefully things will stay close to the same there.

He can't even sniff the field, although he's good at pulling fire alarms in Albany, New York hotels

Word is he'll probably be switching to a 3-4 defensive scheme which I like to see.

Lots of speed to work with on offense and should be getting a healthy offensive line back.  Just need a guy that can run it!

By no means does this make the Eagles a threat this coming year. It's going to take time for Kelly to input his system and get enough athletes to make it work.

Keep an eye out for one of three things to happen....

Tim Tebow comes in to run the offense until he can find a young guy in the draft to fit his system.

Eagles trade for Dennis Dixon of the Pittsburgh Steelers

Kelly drafts 2 or 3 fast qb's mid-draft

Horrible hire. He'll be back in college in 3 years.

Everytime his offense faced good defenses (Auburn, Stanford, LSU) it  came to a screeching stop. Every NFL defense is better than those 3.

The final nail in the Eagles coffin for the next few years until he goes back to College ball where he belongs. I now have the Eagles penciled in for dead last in their division the next few years and close to the bottom of the NFC cellar.

Biggest mistake he can do is try to put Vick in there. My first move would be to trade Vick. Hes a liability these days.....Make Foles your man or draft anothe rguy to mold.....

THEY CAN CUT VICK 3 DAYS AFTER THE SUPER BOWL AND NOT OWE HIM THAT MUCH

IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER IF IT'S HIM OR FOLES AT QB

THAT OREGON OFFENSE IS A RUN BASED OFFENSE NOT A PASS BASED OFFENSE

WHEN HE WAS COACHING AT OTHER SCHOOLS HE WAS USING PRO STYLE OFFENSES AS WELL AS SPREAD OFFENSES

I THINK MCCOY HAS A CRAZY GOOD FANTASY FOOTBALL SEASON NEXT YEAR

its going to take years for Chip to REBUILD ....the Ealges....he cannot run that  offense  back in Oregon. He doesn't have the players......forget about Vick and don't talk about Tebow. They will draft alot of young talent .......and let go the older guys......nothing will happen over night

Tebow can't run Kelly's system, it's not heavy on QB run options.

As for needing athletes, that's the one the Eagles are rich with on the offensive side of the ball.  Desean Jackson, Damaris Johnson, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy.  Work in some Bryce Brown in there as well.  I just want to see who is going to be the quarterback...
