If my math is correct AP needs 294 yards in the final 2 games. to break ED's record

With 1,812 yards on the season, Peterson now needs to average just 94 over his final two games to reach 2,000, and 147 to break Dickerson's record.

Eric Dickerson's 1984 single season record is 2105 yards. Check it out

My bad.  I should've clarified.  AP needs avg. 147 yds per game for the next 2 games.

I'd vote for AP, but fear he has no chance...  the sports booboise in the press loves goodell-ball, which genuflects at the church of the passing game every Sunday.

(All of which, ironically, makes Peterson the more impressive.)

If we compare AP's numbers to other running backs this year -- and indeed, for all time -- you see how out-of-standard-deviation he truly is.  You probably have to go back to Jim Brown in 1963 to have per-carry comparability.

When Manning picks up a passing yard, it's by throwing to any one of 4-5-6 guys.  A team that is focusing on stopping him has to focus on stopping all of them

When Peterson picks up a running yard, it's against a defense that can sell out to stop just him.  He doesn't have guys to go to...  he's the guy that's already been "gone to" when he takes the handoff.  (The more so now with Harvin out.)

Yet the Vikings, last 9-10 games, average substantially more per rush attempt than per pass attempt.  Unheard of in today's NFL.  Just ask any of those other quarterbacks in the MVP conversation.

Manning, as has been observed above, is one of a number of excellent, comparable quarterbacks -- and he's probably behind Brady and ARoj when you factor in their incredibly low pick numbers -- who's really, really good and whose team will end up with 11-13 wins.

He's great.  Aaron's great.  Brady's great.  Ryan's really good.  So is Russell Wilson. Ditto RG3.  Take away  any of these guys and you'd lose 3-4 wins, as you would with Payton.

But what AP has done is so far outside the box, it's amazing.  Manning's year is not really "comparable" in terms of being a statistical outlyer.

Whether Peterson's yards are more important or "valuable" in absolute terms, you can argue -- but as a relative proposition, the value Peterson brings per run is way out of step with his competitors.  Manning's isn't.  And isn't value, in it's nature, a relative thing?

I'd vote for AP too.  Stacked boxes.  A QB who can't move the chains to save his life.  If Minnesota gets in the playoffs he deserves it.  If not I'd give it to Brady.  He beat Manning head to head, and in my opinion has the reins to the best team in the NFL.

I wrote about this earlier in the week...and even though AP didn't have a great game today...I still think he's right there in the mix to get it for a numbers of reasons that I explain.

AP. he can't audible or call plays. He has to run and figure out how to go to the house with the ball in his hands with 11 guys staring at the ball trying to tackle it. Beast and by far the best running back of the "generation." The fact that he is even close to the record is amazing. Also, I think going to today, he averaged more yards per carry than his QB did per completion. That's nuts

If Vikes make playoffs then it goes to AP. If they don't its gotta be Peyton. Tom Brady in my opinion hasnt had the same impact that Peyton has. A bigger part of the pats success this year is from their improved running game in my opinion.

Thats my opinion Manning probably gets comeback player

Without Peterson, the Vikings would be lucky to win 2 games?  But the Vikings did have him in 2011 and Minnesota went 3-13.  So your logic is not valid.

And Broncos are dominating this year.  Last year teabow had to pull out weekly miracles to win.  Broncos are a legit SB contender this year and that's because of PM.

You said it LC, if the Vikings win this week and make the playoff, Adrian Petterson is the MVP, otherwise, Brady over Manning.

BUT, i would also like to mention a very viable option :

If the Redskins win in DC and make the playoff, i believe RG3 deserve the title as much as the other 3.

Actually, RG3 is the absolute MVP is the skins make the playoff IMO.

It's amazing to keep a rating over 100 for any QB, and more amazing from a rookie QB.

RG3 is da man

OMG nfl.com have release their MVP list and RG3 isn't in the top 10..WTF ?? But we can see Tony Romo in the 10th seed lmao.

They should hire me to make a decent MVP Top 10 forecast if they really think Tono Romo is more useful to his team than Robert Griffin loll

Last I saw Peyton was -200 for MVP, AP +150, the field +800.

Vegas says Brady has no shot even though if I had a vote I would definitely consider voting for him. Problem is the broncos are likely going to finish with a higher seed than the Pats.

I live in Denver and think it is AP in a landslide.
There have been so many years as good as Manning and Brady have had at QB but no one has done what AP is doing and it is on a below average team.
One of the greatest seasons in the history of sports IMHO.

Peterson is the feel good story of the year. Major knee injury last December. Most players who suffer the injury that he suffered aren't the same until close to 2 years after. He plays on a team the has a limited at best passing game and after Percy Harvin went down teams loaded the box and dared Minny to throw.

The fact that AP is playing at a very high level is amazing

The FACT that he is challenging the record for most rushing yards in a season is insane!

Giving the award to anyone else is criminal!!!!!
