#1 Posted: 10/8/2012 2:56:55 PM I'll preface this by saying I'm a die-hard Jets fan.
I have posted this question in some individual threads with no answers so I'll post it here.
I challenge you guys to give me a single pro-jets in game matchup that you like. Every thread I'd read so far as to do with the fact that the line is suspiciously low, or that home dogs do well on mondays, or teams coming off a loss usually cover or any of that garbage. I agree sometimes that info is very important, but there has to be some aspect of a matchup that you like.
What in-game matchup do you think keeps the Jets in the game?
Is it there worst in the league rush defense against the top rb in the league. Their 28th ranked passing game against the number 3 pass defense. They're 25th ranked rushing game against the number 9 rush defense? Is it the fact the jets starting offense will feature:
Sanchez (under 50% completions last 3 games)
Green (92 yards in his last 44 carries)
Jeff Cumberland (22 yards per game)
Chaz Chillens (18 yards per game)
Kerley (2.5 catches a game against nickle corners now facing the #1 corner for texans)
Joe McKnight playing his second game ever on defense as the nickle corner?
Pace, Thomas, and Scott trying to cover Foster in the flat?
Give me one advantage on the field that you think the Jets have. |

This is exactly my point. Jets backers have nothing to go on except entangibles... That won't be enough tonight especially when the home crowd turns on them. |

they have tebow.
jets have always played texans close, if not beating them.
texans have played nobody this year, not saying jets are somebody.

On the field, I think the Jets have the advantage on special teams. |

#9 Posted: 10/8/2012 3:32:53 PM its cuz the matchups are factored into the line, thats what ppl
dont get... everyone knows the texans are the better team, but the
better team doesnt always win....
look at last
night, the chargers are the better team this year and the saints got
outplayed from the gate, yet they still found a way to win and cover...
situations
do matter in the nfl, u really think they are going to lay down and let
the texans beat there behind in there own house, after the behind whopping
they niners just gave them?

you still aren't getting his point, are you?
unless you are saying that, in the matchup of Tebow vs. the Houston Secondary, you think Tebow wins that matchup... then you still aren't answering his question... and it is a very valid question...
basically, all of these reasons (line is too low, Jets got hammered, MNF home dog, pride, series history)... all of these things can be summed up as 1 factor... motivation! i.e.... the line is low because books expect a harder effort... Jets got hammered so they will be sharper this week... MNF home dog plays hard for the home crowd and TV audience... Jets play the Texans close historically because (who knows?) they hate each other...
all of it is saying the same thing... we expect a focused, motivated Jets team tonight...
however, motivation is only one aspect of the game... you could tell me and 10 of my friends that if we don't beat the Colts in a 1 game series, that we will be executed... that's a ton of motivation... but we would still get our fools kicked!... you know why?
because we don't match up with the Colts!

#12 Posted: 10/8/2012 3:39:53 PM Sometimes it not the numbers that people look at, but the situations..
If numbers are the only thing, we wouldn't get upsets like Minny beating SF or Cleveland keeping it close to baltimore a few weeks back. On paper, cleveland, and minny had no advantages. but it happened.
Not all of the people are calling for a jets victory, only that the jets can keep it with in the numbers.. It could be they believe that the texas could be looking ahead to next week with the match vs green bay, and just want to get out with a win, or that the jets are grown men and after being humiliated last week, on prime time, will show some pride and play hard to keep it close.. it all based on the situation. and sometimes these can be the difference between a winning bet and a losing bet.. You ask for a explanation why people are willing to back a team that seems to being on a major downward spiral vs a team that seems to be playing the best right now.. there it is..
Personally i haven't placed my play yet and am still capping this game.. |

#19 Posted: 10/8/2012 3:50:35 PM GraniteStateKid- you're operating on the premise that the Jets will play the exact same way they have over their last 3. You're not accounting for teams/players abilities to step up and play above and beyond their talent or skill. Home crowd, prime time, ridicule in the news, job security, etc will all play into this game and into how the Jets will play. These players are still professionals and they aren't gonna lay down for anyone. Pride is huge for these men, I'll guarantee a veteran leader on this team stepped up and challenged this team this week. Jets play inspired tonight. |

#20 Posted: 10/8/2012 3:54:39 PM Just like how the saints didn't matchup well with chargers, but when the NFL wants a team to win, they shall win..u r underestimating the power of Roger Goodell and the zebras..if Goodell really wants the jets to win, they will win..just watch |

I've taken all that into account and I feel the same way. I like the guys post who said that if he and 10 of his buddies had to beat the colts or be executed they would still get blown out. Sometimes you're just outmanned and outgunned and outcoached. I don't think the Jets have a chance here even if they all play their heart out. The was not a deep or experienced team going into the season, and now with the injuries we are going to have to face the situation that Tannenbaum put us in. We are a bad football team. |
