Im confused on what ur saying. I have been in the business, for years ,have kept it small time ,piggybacking off friends of mine that have done this full time for over40 years.Im in my 50s.A friends father has been booking since we were kids .His father gave him his own spot when he was 25

.I started betting with the father when I was 17 in 1974. Then staying with the son until I decided and they let me  get involved 7 years ago..Never once did he or anyone hooked up with his name give a bad line .Years ago when it was the phone only u would get a NYline sometimes of a half point diffrence on certain games, but never a 10 point swing against people that will pay anyway ??? wtf does that mean. . Since being hooked into online since 2001 those NY lines dont even exsist anymore.,.My connections plus the few ones I know across the country are all legit all treat it as a legit business, and yes once in a while someone doesnt pay and you have to go after them, but never the movie stuff where there waiting in someones house or breaking kneecaps ,CMON Now .My end is small and its somewhat of a hobby but I still run it like a business.First of all everyone starts out on a limit per gamebet and per week losses ,After proving that they are MEN and pay when there suppose to we raise the limit. But never over a certain amount .We cut someone after a week if they dont pay ,give them 2 weeks to take care of it ,then they get turned back on .If it goes longer than 2 weeks it becomes a loan ,with intrest,(No one wants to pay extra on a loss)

.Most players are legit ,and they just want to bet.the threat of being cut off from a honest book and one that understadns people have bad streaks as well as good ones  and will work with  ,is good enough to keep them playing with you. When you let someone making 600 a week bet 2000 a week your gonna get burned .Know your players and dont be a greedy person  helps .

I think the writer of this thread is either a 20 year old kid who has no connections at all has watched to many movies and probbly bets $5dollar 4 team parlays online . Or a degen, gambler who has taken friends bets instead of calling them in ,thinking hes a big shot, and got burned

With all due respect 54Capper, I'm was in my 20's when I did it. Absolutely the number 1 thing you do is know what someone does for a living, have them earn their credibility, and most the times it all works out. The person that I dealt with was not an honest person, therefore dealing with him led to me being dishonest. I was in my early 20's making enough money and was full of piss and vinegar - to say the least.

Whether or not you believe the stories are no bother to me and in retrospect, I should not even of mentioned them. The people that respond to this and assume first that I'm bragging don't bother me either. Why in the hell would I brag about something like this?

My point of writing this was to the people that ACTUALLY ARE IN THEIR EARLY 20's who have this dream that they can bet on sports for a living. Poker and giving sports advice I think are different stories. To keep betting in perspective is my entire point and as a re-read the post on page 1, I realize I should have articulated it better. I have seen people basically ruin their lives through doing this and to prevent 1 person from doing that is enough for me.

The 10 point swing? Against people that WONT pay; so basically let em run the bill up and get what you can out of them. If a guy owes 500bucks and you know he may not be good for it let em go to 1500 because when you ask him for the 1500 and he gives you 500, thats all you were looking for anyways. If he wins back the 500 bucks just stop dealing with him. As you know there are warning signs as to when someone may not pay you. If you run it legitimately than congratulations and I hope it all works out. In my experience, degenerate gamblers will always darn you in the end, period. And these types of people are ALWAYS credible in the beginning, the disease causes them to be someone their not.

Ed if you tell me you had GB -8 I would hafta say you just dont pay attention.

Joan Jett just stopped by and she's pretty fuckin smokin in real life. Her and her husband are up here on a Winter Ice fishing trip in Northern Maine. This is the 3rd night in a row these fuckin vacationers have got me to eat mushrooms and I cant look like a cheap as and ask em for money but I cant heat my house on sellin bait for too much longer. Im gonna see if her husband can handle the ones in the red wrapper they knock your fuckin socks off ...  muahaha...

I didn't bet GB. But it's always easy to say "GIFT" when you are dead sure about a bet and it wins easily because all the factors you used in your handicap came right.

However, just how many times the same things apply: You are dead sure of the bet, everything points to one side/total, all the factors point to one side, even if half the factors are right should be an easy win yet when game start, WTF is going on???

How many times we had two NHL teams with their average GF being in the top 3 and GA being in the bottom 3, their average total goals per game being something like 6.5 and 7.2 and the books set the line at 5.5 juiced UNDER for -130. Looks like a gift on the over. No injuries, nothing. Game usually ends 2-1 or worst.

Same thing in football. How many times did a team just not show up after the line looked like it was 2 touchdowns short?

sorry I misunderstood you, I know nothing about hockey but it a fine analogy to your point about the NFL...you just dont know how the ball is going to bounce or what a coaches true gamsplan is, and therefore have no friggin idea.

If Cundiff would have hit that field goal in NE last week I would have nailed a teaser I played. The guy missed a 32 yarder!! a small example of handicapping correctly, but not knowing which way the 'ball will bounce'

streak survivor contest? it involves sports I know nothing about

NFL reg season contest? you have to pick EVERY side and total to have hope in the long run

NFL Playoff contest? same as NFL reg season

If you think the stats on those contests are where my money is, bet against everything I do

thus, since I liike NE -2.5 and UNDER 55,

go GMEN +2.5 and OVER 55

I only believe in "gifts" in college, never in NFL. College games where the books just can't set the game spread high enough because one team can win by 70 if they wanted AND they have the motivation. Or when the total should be 90+ but they just can't set it that high. These games usually go the way they're supposed to or they miss because of a horrendous series of unlikely events.

Or, they simply do not show up. But that's very rare in college. These kids have something to play for, whereas in the NFL they get paid no matter what. In fact, some teams in college have every reason to run it up while their opponent has no stake in even trying to keep it close.

Teams like Akron and New Mexico were golden to fade against any mediocre team who has something to prove.

Agreed New Mexico may have been the worst team in the country...Akron I know what you're saying but not to the tune of New Mexico..You mentioned in both the O/U's which do get demolished in college football.

I know the biggest discrepincy in lines comes in the college game..so, the biggest profit can be made here..if you bet more units that is.

Confidence in the college game is represented by units, which kills a bankroll by that confidence alone...

plz tell me you were jokin .. try and stick me up and see what happens .. hah j/k  .. i like your comedy bloke .. classic stuff man ..

i read this whiole thread and felt many movie ideas and storylines as I read .. prob is ? no one believes it is that ez .. i am open to play any part of your movie ? just dont make me have to do anything to racy ..

bottom line as to what this thread is about or what you can get from it ? is seeds .. if you can read and may be a younger or in a crossroads in your life .. you have no choice but to learn something .. most know that no matter how someone makes a living there is a price to pay .. would be so lovely and practical for everyone to have a job that helps people and is glamorized .. but that is not reality .. too many people and it was not meant for everyone to be doctors and nurses .. who by the way i never trust .. lol
