I'm not a resident of New Jersey, but would vote yes if I ever see it on the ballet. You're right though, people need to know it's on the ballet in order to win this thing.

I've been following this for years and I am 100% for this. It's insane that NJ doesn't have the right to have sports betting while other states can. I have been tell friends and family and have even been trying to spread the word on Facebook.

Sad but true...too bad, as AC could really use the punch in the arm that sports gambling could provide. Part of the problem is that the northern part of the state (cesspool) CONTROLS it all.

NJ is LOADED w/too many idiots for this to pass.

Christie is behind it si I believe it will pass. After that is a crooked crap shoot(envision loaded dice).
While
a “yes” vote will indeed set the wheels in motion, it won’t
automatically lead to legalized sports betting. PASPA is still a federal
law and can only be repealed by a 2/3 vote in Congress or by a decision
in the U.S. Supreme Court ruling the law unconstitutional. Both right
now seem unlikely although the federal government and courts seem to be
warming up to gambling expansion as a revenue generator. In fact even
the sports leagues, which have been the strongest opponents, seem more
willing to consider the idea. And if the decision is indeed left up to
the Supreme Court to decide it’s hard to see them agreeing that the
exclusionary law is constitutional. “You had your chance but blew it”
may be a valid argument in gym class but likely won’t hold sway in the
highest court in the land.

If sportsbetting does not go through then AC and The horse racing industry can say bye bye in this state. The states around NJ have slots, craps, blackjack and Poker. They just open up another racino at one of the throughbred tracks in NY. But the thing is once NJ gets it then everyone else will want it. So how do you solve that problem?

correct me if Im wrong but if this vote passes it does not "legalize" sportsbetting.
If the ammendment passes it only "allows the Legislature, WHEN PERMITTED BY FEDERAL LAW, to legalize the placing of bets on certain sports events at casinos, and racetracks..."
I think it will pass but this is a small battle. We need to get past the feds after this.
I think with Chris Christie's weight (cough) behind a yes vote it will help but do not expect to see gambling parlors popping up all over NJ.
We need a yes vote on Tuesday, then we have to go back and get a law change at the federal level , and then we will probably need another vote in NJ to actually implement rules and regulations.

Maybe those greedy fuckers in AC shoulda put some money back into the city and people would still come there. The whole city is a shithole. Do the casino's even stay open 24 hrs anymore? Last time I went the Taj and Showboat were both dead on a thursday night. I'm surprised they just dont shut down except for the weekends

Sports betting advocates see good signs on referendum
There’s early indications that the statewide referendum on sports betting is on its way to approval.
William J. Pascrell III, campaign director for Vote YES on Sports Wagering and a partner at Princeton Public Affairs Group Inc., said, “At this stage so far, the absentee (vote by mail) ballots we’ve been monitoring in northern New Jersey are running 2-to-1 for approval.’’
Polls have also showed heavy support for the measure downstate. Sports betting would be hosted by the casinos and racetracks, and a Rutgers-Eagleton report showed support from nearly three-quarters of likely voters in Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic counties, where the casino and racetrack economies are based.
Pascrell said, “We‘re confident it‘s going to pass. We don‘t know what kind of margin it‘ll have.’’

the local mobsters don't want it-besides vote means nothing-against fed law
When overseas online betting started, people thought that was the end of locals. Now with legalized betting in racetracks, casinos, parlors, people are saying the same, but the bottom line is I don't believe a "good" local bookie will ever lose his best customers.
- People love having credit and playing week to week. - People love not having to put a chunk of money ahead of time into an account. - People love to make their bets without driving to a racetrack or casino. - People love not having Uncle Sam looking over their shoulder. - The few winning bettors out there love to know that the small window of PROFIT is tightened by paying taxes on winnings.
Personally, I used to have a few overseas books, but when Pinnacle and Matchbook went bye bye, I grabbed my money at the other shit places and cashed out. I use two locals that when used together are better than any piece of shit online book. I don't see NJ betting any better either. Maybe I'll open an account just to do it and it might come in handy on a random Sunday if I'm in Atlantic City or the Meadowlands, but for ME this bullshit means nothing to me.

How could the Feds of the NFL prevent NJ from doing this when it's been done in Nevada for years? How can they tell NJ they can't do what Nevada is doing?
