#1 Posted: 11/6/2009 10:09:17 AM "Good morning everyone and welcome to Week 9's edition of the SUCKER
BET, as always brought to you by the kind folks at Tootsie Pop! For
those of you who are unfamiliar with the SUCKER BET, each week I
identify the games where the public seems to be heavily favoring one
side. Typically there are 3 or 4 choices each week. From those games,
I choose one unpopular pick as the SUCKER BET. Last week was another outright win for the SUCKER BET, bringing our season tally to an even 4-4 ATS. This week Joe Public seems to be siding heavily with the Ravens as they opened up as a dog and are now favored by a FG as they travel to Cincinnati. The last time these two teams met was not long ago (Week 5) as Cedric Benson became the first rusher in 40 games to run for over 100 yards vs. the Ravens. Perhaps as impressive was the Bengals victory two weeks ago (they had a bye last week) as they hosted another team with a strong defense, the Bears. In that game Carson Palmer threw for 5 TD's and Cedric Benson rushed for 189 yards. Cincinnati is one of the league's most balanced offense and can get to the top of their divsion with a victory on Sunday. These teams both are matched-up against one of the league toughest schedules this season. Against "Top 10" teams, the Ravens are just 1-3. In Carson Palmers' 10 career starts against the Ravens, he is 7-3 ATS. Where these two differs most is not on either side of the ball, but on special teams, specically punt returns. the Bengals are one of the best averaging over 13 yards ppr vs. the Ravens under 5 yards ppr. As strong of a defense the Ravens are know for, the Bengals have more sacks, intereceptions, fumble recoveries, and give up less 1st down per game. The Bengals are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0, 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog, and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game. The Ravens are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games as a road favorite, and are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Bengals. Cincinnati will also bring a stout rushing defense into this week as opponents are averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. There you have it, Benglas +3 as the host the always popular Ravens. Good luck to everyone this week and see you next week for WEEK 10's SUCKER BET brought to you by Tootsie Pop!"

#6 Posted: 11/6/2009 11:27:45 AM The sucker bet goes to 4-5 this week. No measure for passion. And the most exciting player on offense for either team is on the Ravens - Ray Rice. Benson won't get a 100 yds on the BAL D again. |

#10 Posted: 11/6/2009 12:12:21 PM Sorry chpper but games are not decided on who's the most exciting.
Anyway, I agree with the sucker bet this week, although I really hope you start adding paragraphs.
The bottom line is giving points to the home team that won the last game on the road is stupid. I definitely believe that games are often decided by matchups, and so the best piece of information we have is this exact matchup already happening.
Is their value in this bet? I don't know, because Ravens will definitely bring it and they did lose the last one very closely. I wish I could have the Bengals at +9 again!

#14 Posted: 11/6/2009 1:52:17 PM Yes squareshell I should've picked a better adjective/adverb to describe Rice. But he gets the job done EVERY week. If one presumes he does it again this week AND the Ravens D will keep Benson in check this weekend, then taking BAL -3 is really an easy pick. Last weeks win against the Broncos was big for this team and they know a loss here kills everything they are trying to build on. |

#16 Posted: 11/6/2009 2:59:25 PM the only thing that bothers me is that Balty seemed to get back their MOJO last weekend beating a Denver with a much needed win.

#17 Posted: 11/6/2009 3:01:03 PM Dude, learn to use the ENTER button to create paragraphs. Your post are way too long for one paragraph and very sore on the eyes. I'll avoid them in the future.
Yes, Cincy looks good here getting +3 points at home vs a team they have already beaten on the road this season however it is hard to sweep a team in the NFL unless one of those teams is a poor performer. In 2007 Cincy swept this, in 2008 the Ravens swept this. So there goes that theory correct?
Not so fast my friend, Ravens should win by a TD here. Whoever wins this game will do so SU and ATS and I'll side with Baltimore in this divisional struggle. They simply need the win more and will play as if they are fighting for thier playoff hopes, which basically they are.

Baltimore destroyed Denver at HOME last week.. they playing at Cincy after we beat them at their place a few weeks ago... Andre Smith OL #1 pick might play some snaps.. Carson will have time to throw here and Benson will run too

SPORTS BETTING IS COOL. BASHING POSTERS IS NOT!
I DISAGREE WITH YOUR SWEEP THEORY BTW
THE REDSKINS SWEPT PHILI LAST YEAR AND PHILI ENDED UP A WIN AWAY FROM THE BOWL PHILI WAS NOT A POOR TEAM WERE THEY?
ALSO -BOTH TEAMS NEED THIS WIN ITS A HUGE GAME FOR BOTH TEAMS - ACTUALLY ITS BIGGER FOR CINCI CAUSE THEY CAN EARN HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE OVER BALTY
WE ALL KNOW PITT WILL WIN THE DIVISION AGAIN.
AND HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THE WINNER WILL WIN BY MORE THAN A FG, MORE GAMES LAND ON 3 THAN ANY OTHER # SO YOU KNOW
