19-15 YTD: 2-1 Best Bets&#xA0;Week 5ATLANTA &#x2B;3&#xA0;This week I like the Falcons getting the points. Both teams have looked good early. SF is a big play away from a 4-0 start. Atlanta got off to a fast start before running into the Pats. This weekend I expect a close game, but with SF stepping out of their weak division they will face much stiffer competition. Atlanta&#x27;s wins against Carolina and Miami don&#x27;t look like much now, but I expect both of those teams to rebound and be respectable competition by year end. Definitely tougher competition than Seattle or St Louis. In a close game that should come to a FG I&#x27;ll take my chances with Matt Ryan over Shaun Hill. That said I like Atlanta to win outright, but if they lose the game it will be close. Give me 3 with the birds!&#xA0;GL!

Tough game, because I really like both teams. Edge to San Fran and that defense. I think they are for real.

Backing SF here and I am a Matt Ryan lover...he is my QB for my dynasty football league...but SF playing with some serious purpose...Atl defense ain&#x27;t the same on the road and Ryan has a tougher schedule this year, he won&#x27;t be as special as last year, but he will be an absolute stud when it&#x27;s all said and done...gluck

Only four teams in the NFL have less PY than Niners; Oakland, St Louis, Miami, and KC. Second to last in first downs/game at 13.8 and only converting 28% on "money down" for fifth worst in league. No Gore, so Coffee will carry the load and was less than impressive last two games as feature back; 49 carries for 128 YR, an average of 2.6 YPC! Look beneath the 25 PPG. Singletary making moves with shoddy OL to shore up protection because Hill sacked third most in league. Niners already punted 30 times, most in league. That's 7.5 punts/game! (teams get on average 11 possesions/game) Will SF get a ST and D touchdown every game to compensate?

On the other side, Atlanta is coming off the bye and "good" loss week prior. I say good loss because Pats exposed Falcon flaws in time for the bye, and Mike Smith's team had time to reflect and correct. Falcons 5-0 after loss last year. They are significantly better at QB, RB, OL, WR, TE. On defense, Atlanta has struggled allowing 381 Yds/G (third most in league), but still only 17.7 PPG. Good game for rested and well prepared Falcon squad to get D on track and get a solid road win vs. quality opponent.

Gunshard, Matt Ryan&#x27;s QB rating is 100.4 and Shaun Hill&#x27;s 93.3, my friend. Matt Ryan - 66% completion, 7.1 Yds/Att, 216 Yds/G, 2 sacks Shaun Hill - 62% completion, 6.6 Yds/Att, 175 Yds/G, 13 sacksMatt Ryan has better receivers to throw to (34 of 60 passes to WRs, 57%), a more stable OL, and a more talented RB combo.  Conversely, Shaun Hill checks down more often due to a lack of playmakers, (completing only 26 of 66 passes to WRs, 40%) hence why they drafted WR in first round.      Please tell me how these QBs are equal?

Nah. Go with the Niners. Atlanta is on the road and the Niners D is going to be too much. FYI...Atlanta&#x27;s offense has only scored 57 points this year compared to the Niners 102. Also, Shaun Hill is undefeated as a starter at Candlestick.

you have to remember part of those 102 points for SF were scored by the Defense &amp; Special Teams

Let&#x27;s not forget that the Niners have played the Rams and Seahawks 2 pretty bad teams. They also played Arizona who&#x27;s decent but more of an offensive team. Minnesota was their real quality opponent and again Minnesota isn&#x27;t exactly shutting teams out. I think when you look at their opponents vs Atlanta playing a good Defensive Miami team who runs the ball and kills clock and a New England team that has faired well on D so far, the point differential is artificial. Also, Atlanta&#x27;s played 3 games vs SF&#x27;s 4, so again artificial point differential. One more thing... with Gore out this week that&#x27;s another edge to the Falcons.

Mleavers - You make some good points about the point differential being artificial thus far, but let's not forget that Falcons have only beat Miami and Carolina. Neither of which has proven to be a quality opponent yet.

I agree that their opponents haven&#x27;t been great either but I think both Miami and Carolina would beat up on St Louis and Seattle. Miami&#x27;s better than their record and the jury is still out on Carolina. We&#x27;ll see how things play out, but I still like Matt Ryan and the Falcons to get it done.&#xA0;GL!

Total of the Week:Pittsburgh/Detroit OVER 44This play is locked. I love this one to go flying over the total. Traditionally Pittsburgh has been thought of as a run first, defensive team. With their key loses on defense this year, they have proven vulnerable. They&#x27;ve also struggled to run the ball prior to last week which has lead to more of a pass attack from Big Ben. They should be able to put points up against a weak Detroit defense this week. Detroit has proven 1 thing and that is that they can put points on the board. We&#x27;ve seen them put up 24 and 27 against Chicago and New Orleans. Even against the tougher defenses of Washington and Minnesota, Detroit was able to put a couple of scores. I know Stafford is questionable which is probably why this total isn&#x27;t higher, but Caulpepper looked good in the pre-season and gave Stafford a run for the starting position. With the holes in Pittsburgh&#x27;s defense either QB should be able to put 20&#x2B; on the board and with that said I expect atleast mid 20&#x27;s from the Steelers. Take advantage of the lower total while you can. If Stafford plays this will move to 46&#x2B; by game time. At the end of the day I see this one FLYING OVER THE TOTAL!Play OVER 44!GL!

Adding&#xA0;Houston/Arizona Over 50.5 - &#xA0;Houston looked aweful against the Jets in week 1, but since then they&#x27;ve proved that they can put some points on the board, putting up 24&#x2B; points in each of their other games. This week they face an Arizona D that is not even close to the Jets. I expect 24&#x2B; points again. On the other side of the ball Houston has let up lots of points. The Jets put up 24 and Tenessee and Jacksonville each put up 31! The lowely Raiders couldn&#x27;t hit double digits, but then again, it&#x27;s the Raiders. Both of these times have high powered offenses that can put up points. The total is high at 50.5 but I still like the over...Play OVER 50.5!GL!

This is a tough game to handicap. Shaun Hill doesnt make many mistakes. The 49ers should have beat the Vikings. Atlanta coming off a bye will be well rested &amp; focused to win. Its a no play for me but good luck with this play!
