Everyone needs to calm down a little, I said I wouldn't be shocked to see the lions win week 1 or 2. This implies I don't expect them to win either game but people are acting like i guaranteed it. I think the defense will be much improved (couldn't be worse) with the new linebackers and defensive backs the lions have brought in. Sims, Foote, Peterson is one of the scarier linebacking cores in the NFL. The D line still isn't good so they will probably still give up a lot of yards on the ground but it wouldn't be a total shock for me if they win either game. Honestly a lot of my belief that they could pull out an upset win early on in the season is that I think teams won't take them seriously as many of the people on this forum don't. I think they will play with passion and purpose, nobody likes to be the laughingstock and I have to believe the new coaching staff and new veterans brought in will help push this team in the right direction.
Gollum, mate, as a Saints fan living in Detroit, I know what you are going through. I also understand what you are trying to say. Of course, there can't possibly be any way possible that the Lions are worse than last season. Last season's Lions were a Survival Football players dream come true. Pick their opponent every week and when the duplicate division foes came up, the biggest spread dog.
Lions have made a lot of nice off-season veteran and talent pickups. Foote, Peterson. Bryant, Northcutt, etc. So much so, that the Lions will be the Frankenstein of NFL next year. What should worry Lions fans though is this is not the way to build a solid team as these blokes will be one or two year pick-ups, max, and then gone. The Lions need to dump their entire Scouting Department which has been the worst in the NFL for 10+ years, hands down, no questions, no arguments can be made.
And then, once Ford sells the team, the Lions can finally become successful once more.
The reason why Sims said the Lions will never win and the reason why Sanders quit. Built Ford Shit.

8 wins if you include this year, next year, and half of the year after that. Detroit has a bad habit of getting rid of the few good players they have and getting nothing in return.

Couple of rookie QB's made huge difference in their teams last year ( Atlanta and Baltimore ) . Lions could be next . They drafted an excellent QB this year . Who needs Culpepper . Throw the kid in and let him play .

what offseason improvements are you referring to? drafting a rookie QB who no one else wanted to pay top ten money to and isn't even the week one starter? or failing to shore up a secondary that has finished 32, 32, 30th in pass def the last three seasons? I like the LB pickups but both Peterson and Foote are on the decline and won't be around longer than 2 seasons...

Ahhh....you sure don't like the Lions over crowd very much do you my friend?? Like I said, they will improve in all areas of the game this year and the defense will be much better with the additions in the LB corps. As far as offense goes......that qb that most people keep poo-pooing looked pretty good in his first action. As good or better than all the other rookies that I saw. Calvin Johnson on the field all game with him is going to do wonders for a kid who will no doubt, get in trouble and throw a few up that he shouldn't.......because CJ will come down with most of those. GL to you and stop back by my blog and take me up on my challenge.

haha great call man i was a little drunk with my initial prediction. the spartans could legitimately be undefeated going into the penn state game. Now that stafford has officially been named starter i think the lions win less games maybe 4 or 5 but I could still see 7 or maybe even 8 as a possibility. Spartans could go undefeated and play for the BCS championship
