Thats pretty big.

I guess Haley thinks that Cassel will be the Warner for the Chefs that the team needs.

It will be interesting to see if Matt can play behind a subpar OL without all the weapons and protection he is accustomed to.

From http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/28/chiefs-complete-trade-for-cassel/

The Kansas City Chiefs have found their starting quarterback. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs acquired QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots in a trade on Saturday.

The teams have agreed on compensation, according to Schefter, but no details of the deal were immediately available.

Cassel was designated as the Patriots’ franchise player on Feb. 5, guaranteeing him $14.65 million next season. The signed tender was officially submitted to the league earlier this week.

Cassel saw the first significant action of his career last season, taking over as the starter for the injured Tom Brady in Week 2 and starting 15 games, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

Cassel will see some familiar faces in Kansas City. Schefter also reports Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel wasin Kansas City on Friday undergoing a physical so that he can then be traded to the Chiefs. Vrabel later confirmed the trade in an email to The Boston Globe. Cassel and Vrabel will be playing for new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who was hired in January to oversee the team’s football operations after nine seasons in New England.

Schefter's now saying that there's another team in the mix.

Anyone who knows the Bellichick way, knows that he had no interest in the 3rd pick overall.

I think Cassel for the 2nd round pick would be fine straight up.  Not sure why they gave up Vrabel as well.  But getting younger at the linebacker position can't hurt.

I'm thinking the Pats now use their money to sign Bodden and Springs for some corner depth.

WTF are the Patriots thinking about....trading a quality LB and a QB coming off a dynamite season. There is no guarantee Brady comes back and is a normal Brady. Injuries like the one Brady is getting over has more affect subconsciously than you could imagine. What does this mean? When someone gets a devastating injury like Brady got he will favor (subconsciously) and will probably sustain an injury to his other knee. Sorry Pats fans but I'm as sick as you. I think the Pats blew this one....

What are they supposed to do?

Keep 2 QBs making over 10mil....that makes no sense.

They aren't winning the Super Bowl without Brady anyways, so theres no point keeping Cassel at his highest value.

I really like the trade.

Pats now got 4 of the top 60 picks in the draft.  Can get a young LB with one of those picks (Matthews from USC would be my guess).

Pats must be satisfied with Brady's progress to go for it.  They better hope Brady stays healthy.

They only got a 2nd round pick? Seems like NE should have gotten more doesn't it? I think Cassel will be a flop anyways now that he goes to a bad team but general perception was that he's a great QB. Couldn't they try and get Tony Gonzalez or something? Why just a 2nd rounder and I thought trades had to match salaries. Cassel has 14 million coming and they even included Vrabel for just a 2nd round pick? WTF?

Sorry guys but I disagree and think the Pats should of waited to see how Brady progresses. What happens if/when Brady goes down in the beginning of the season (again)? I don't know about you but I'm already asking my book for Pats wins future. I'm going under and I'm putting more on it than I did when I laid 5.25-1 on Portland vs Miami in the NBA last season (and I laid a condo).

Brady at 50% makes better decisions then most QB's around. We need defense and only defense to continue this dynasty.
Vrabel is older and in his last year of a contract you know they weren't going to sign him next year, it was a good move.

Absolutely horrible trades for the Pats.  Can't believe the Pats only got a 2nd round pick for Cassell.  He's at the highest value, and you only get a 2nd rounder...which is not that great.  I would have waited until the draft.

Cap room has to be the reason, i guess.
does this mean KC must pay 14 million.
Didn't Pats lay franchise tag, what does this mean.

14 million, we can get Boldin and Sean Avery, lol
Perhaps Matt sundin too.

GL to all.
Personally I never liked Cassel too much.
i just don't like his face,
but he is a decent player for sure.

Who is THEY and why would Belichik do anybody a favor.  This is business and even though I can't stand him he is the best in the business.

I do not think Cassel is worth more than a 2nd (he's only had one good year) but I am very surprised Belichik didn't get more.  Not a bad move getting rid of an old Vrabel.

Yup, so he took the 2nd rounder instead.

Maybe they wouldn't have kept it, but I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have turned it down if KC had offered it.
