and they are just a small click behind the Giants.
What does it all mean halfway through the season? Absolutely nothing. But when I look on a popular site at current Superbowl odds and see the Giants at +460 and the Eagles at +1250 I think I have to make a small halftime of the season bet on the
Philadelphia Eagles +1250 to win the Superbowl
Anyone care to disagree they are 2nd best? Means nothing at this point of the year but for some degenerate debate, I'm all ears.

No way the Eagles are the 2nd best team in the NFL brudda
There 5 wins have been against the
Rams
Steelers
Falcons
Seahwaks
49ers
3 losses to
Dallas
Redskins
Bears
Eagles have only beaten one good team in the Steelers, every other time they have been up against a decent team they have lost(Bears,Cowboys,Redskins)
NY Giants wins
Washington (in week 1 where they looked pathetic) St. Louis Cincinnati Seattle San Francisco Pittsburgh (good win) Dallas (they are a bottom 10 team right now)
Loss Cleveland
Tennessee wins
Jacksonville Cincinnati Houston Minnesota Baltimore Kansas City Indianapolis Green Bay (good win)
are those wins really all that impressive? most of those teams are so-so and a phantom penalty gave them that Baltimore game.
BTW - The Eagles are a McNabb fumble deep in Dallas territory and Bears goal line stand without Westbrook, away from being 7-1.

The NFL is a extremely tough competition brudda, any team that goes 8-0 in the NFL is a very very good team regardless of whom they play IMO.
The difference between the Eagles and Titans is that the Titans are WINNERS,they find a way every week to get it done no matter the circumstances while on the other hand the Eagles produce excuse after excuse(fumble in Dallas game, goal line stand without Westbrook)

The fact that the Titans have got it done in all the close matches they have played proves they are good under pressure and in the clutch, the Eagles have lost all there close games against decent teams which proves at the moment they cannot get it done in the pressure situations

I base these rankings mainly on Defense (Rush Def -first, then passing D) which shines in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh can have as good of a defense as they want but when they get into the playoffs with that offensive line and Ben holding on to the ball so long, playoff calibre defenses will eat them up. This is a new NFL where the passing game is huge and a great defense and run game (i,e 2000 Baltimore Ravens) I believe won't be enough to get it done. You need a great balance with very little if any significant weaknesses. Right now Pittsburgh's offensive line is a HUGE weakness.
And I hate to break it to you but Philadelphia has a better rush defense in both YPG and YPC and they also have a better pass defense and have more sacks and they are ranked higher overall than Tennessee so based on defense as you say, I'm not sure how you can have Tennessee over Philly.

Agreed and that is good for now. But here's my beef with the Titans: the passing game. As I said before this is a new NFL in recent years where you have to have a passing game that is capable of putting some points on the board. If the Tennessee Titans get down, can Kerry Collins and these WR/TE really bring them back?
The Giants and Eagles have just as good defenses and running games as the Titans but they have superior passing games, that are capable of going to the air to put up points and make big plays when they need to. I can't see that from Kerry Collins and this pass offense, and that IMO is what separates the Giants and Eagles from the rest of the league, that are incredibly balanced in both aspects on both sides of the ball and there is no real weaknesses IMO.

Good post, you make some good points and that was proven last year with the Pats/Giants both making the Superbowl, both of them teams were capable of scoring from anywhere on the field with there passing game.
Titans are more your old fashioned tough kind of team that isnt flashy but gets the job done,i guess it remains to be seen whether or not that style of football can provide succes for them in the playoffs in this day and age

Good points about Tennessee's defense. IF the Eagles can secure home field advantage (they have to play the Giants twice and Redskins, and others), they have a shot. Tennessee is heading for 13-14 wins....they will get a bye and be rested in the playoffs, and they are in the AFC. There are more obstacles to the Superbowl in the NFC hands down. However at +1250 they are worth a small wager.

5 Dimes has it at 15 to 1, I think it is a losing bet.
The odds suggest it is a losing bet, as are all future bets. But value wise IMO it is a good bet with what I see as a damn good team. If they stay healthy they will be right there in the end.

I think the Phils offense is lacking..where did the run game go? They are almost as bad as the Cards. The defense is carrying them, but so far they only have ONE quality win this season which was against Pitt. I think there is a good chance they dont make the playoffs to be honest.
They have to beat out Dallas and Washington to get the wildcard because Tampa and Atlanta and Carolina should have similar or better records and then you have Washington and Dallas to compete with.
I understand the futures issue but I dont like those odds given the weak schedule, lack of quality wins and the teams around them competing for that wildcard spot.

Wall - I wouldn't put much stock into the run game lacking. Sure, the Eagles rank in the bottom part of the league in rushing but it is important to remember two things.
1. Their main RB, Westbrook, has missed 2 full games and just played the first quarter of two more. Although Buckhalter is a decent backup, it's tough to run without your main man.
2. Even though the number of carries is low it is important to remember that the Eagles backs catch a ton of balls out of the backfield. It's the same thing as people saying the Saints can't run with Reggie Bush, although it may not statistically count as a rush, a swing pass or dump off out of the back field is basically the same thing as a rush. Philly backs have caught over 50 balls already which is about twice as much as the average. Adding those 25 extra balls to their rush attempts and Philly vaults up to about 11th or 12th in the league. I wouldn't put much stock into not running the back when the backs catch so many passes out of the backfield.
True their sched hasn't been that impressive but statistically they were very good team last year as well, only a couple of fuck ups cost them a playoff spot. IMO they are better than Washington and Dallas and should pick up a wildcard (if they don't catch the Giants) and beat the Cards or whomever wins the North in the 1st round.
The only two people that can fuck this up are Donovan McNabb with his sudden gaffs and Andy Reid with some decisions that will make you barf. If they don't revert to past fuck ups the Eagles will be a legit contender but that's all opiniated and they still have to play the games. We will see.

Philly certainly CAN be the 2nd best team in the NFL. They just have to go out and do it the next few weeks. In a league where there are no standout teams(exception being the Giants), impressive wins over the Giants and then a healthy Dallas, SHOULD catapult them to the top 2 or 3 of the NFL in the power rankings world.
Westbrook, Brown, and Curtis are all getting healthy and obviously that is important for their offense for the remainder of the season.
Tennessee. Solid team, but so overrated. I totaly respect how they wear you down and find a way to win, but Baltimore, Indy, and GB all outplayed and deserved to beat the Titans.
Pittsburgh. Got an offense that disappears for whole games at times.
San Diego. My pick a few weeks ago as the "sleeping giant" of the AFC. They no longer have my respect like that.
Carolina. I love this squad(I have a huge futures wager from last February riding), but they don't seem to play as hot when going against teams that are as physical as them. Playoffs are looking like virtually ALL physical teams on the plate.
Dallas. Could be dangerous if Romo comes back strong and they learn to play some D.
Tampa Bay. Are they anything better than a 10-6 wild card team that gets outclassed in the playoffs?
So looking at the teams, Philly by all means CAN be the 2nd best team in the NFL. They just have to go and take it, and it starts with the Giants and the Cowboys.
