I have a record so far of 16-3-1 which is an 83% winning percentage. There are people with an 1-4 record, at an 80% winning percentage that are ahead of me. How is that??

It probably goes by number of wins and who accumulates the wins first.

Percentages don't matter at all in this game, it's total wins. So really you're tied in the standings with anybody who has 16 wins, regardless of the number of losses and ties they have. At this point in the game, who's ahead of who on the leaderboard when the number of victories is equal is practically irrelevant unless you just like to see your name on the first page.
