I'll post our NHL free picks here on a daily basis. Any feedback is appreciated.
November 19, 2013 – An even 10 games in the NHL tonight. Let’s take a look at the first six. Picks in bold.
7pm – St. Louis-195 at Buffalo, over/under 5
The Sabres (5-16-1) don’t win much and score even less, averaging just 1.73 GPG. New coach Ted Nolan has them playing more aggressive, at least.
The Blues (13-3-3) win quite a bit and LW Alexander Steen is tied for the NHL lead with 26 points. Gotta take the Blues.
7pm – NY Islanders at Toronto -130, over/under 5.5
The Islanders (8-10-3) will start G Kevin Poulin in place of injured Evgeni Nabokov. Not ideal as Poulin is a little untested and hasn’t had a lot of success in the big leagues.
The Maple Leafs(12-7-1) will start G Jonathan Bernier tonight. Bernier has been hurt by lack of goal scoring support his last couple of starts. Shouldn’t be a problem tonight.
7pm – Ottawa at Philadelphia, over/under 5
The Senators (8-8-4) will go with G Robin Lehner between the pipes. A good move considering Craig Anderson’s recent struggles.
The Flyers (7-10-2) are the lowest scoring team in the league with just 35 goals. Netminder Steve Mason will be asked to do a lot tonight.
7:30pm - Minnesota +105 at Montreal, over/under 5
The Wild (13-4-4) will look to sweep the season series after winning 4-3 in Minnesota on Nov. 1st. G Josh Harding has won 9 0f 10.
The Canadiens (10-9-2) are hoping to get some offense going and a line shakeup by coach Michel Therrien is in the offing. It will be tough to get something going against the red hot Harding.
7:30pm - Nashville +160 at Detroit, over/under 5.5
The Predators (9-9-2) are coming off an impressive 7-2 win against Chicago. Nashville will hope Shea Weber scores as they are 5-0 in games in which he has a goal.
The Red Wings (9-5-7) just hope the game doesn’t go to a shootout where they have lost 9 straight dating back to last season. They also haven’t won at home this season. With that fact, it’s hard to take them as a pretty big favorite here.
7:30pm – Boston at NY Rangers -120, over/under 5
The Bruins (13-6-1) are led by LW Milan Lucic, who has scored 9 goals so far. Loui Eriksson has a point in six straight games.
The Rangers (10-10-0) are happy to get LW Rick Nash back in the lineup after missing all but the first 3 games this season with a concussion. I think this will give the Blueshirts the lift they need.
