Quick run down on teams since we'll see them play later.

Group A
China
China is struck by injuries but has recovered well by beefing up their front court with height. They are practically still the same powerhouse as they are carrying over almost all of the team from two years ago (who bagged its 15th FIBA Asia Crown). Focus will be on china's main man Yi Jianlian in an attempt for a do over in this year contest. China have great length paired with deadly shooting from outside. They have competed with bigger European teams and has fared well. Tough bracket for the Chinese team having to have a go at Korea and Iran but I think they will go through.

Iran
Iran was amazing in Jones Cup which paraded almost an intact core group lead by Samad Bahrami and behemoth Hamed Haddadi. They know how to win in this tourney and has been on a hot run since last year's Jones Cup. They are a complete team that moves the ball well and attacks the rim effectively. They can match any line ups with their size and speed and Haddadi, IMO stands as the best post player in this tourney. They are pitted against title favorites China and Korea which makes a very interesting group to watch. Iran and South Korea in a coin flip but slight edge to Iran with the veteran savvy.

South Korea
South Korea has always been a good team that can easily be great. They rely on fast ball movement and excellent outside shooting. They placed 3rd in the 2013 Jones Cup and will be fielding Eric Sandrin, is an imposing center with a lot of international experience. They will most likely rely a lot on their outside shooting to better their third place finish in Wuhan. They lose to Iran by 3 in the regular games of the 2013 Jones Cup but could really have gone either way. They will have to drain a lot of those outside shots in order to get a leg up on either the Chinese and/or Iranian team.

GROUP A

Chinese Taipei
Taipei has made good strides in international ball starting with good recruitment. They field naturalized Quincy Davis who is a workhorse on both ends of the floor. Although standing only at 6-9, he's imposing and could play really physical. Chinese Taipei relies a lot on quickness and outside shooting and will have to battle for placing against Jordan and Philippines for Group A. I think this group is pretty hard to call. Who ever gets their shots to fall definitely moves to the next round.

Philippines
Made as favorite to win Group A, Philippines has made good strides playing friendlies as they are ruled out of the 2013 Jones cup. They do not have the size to match the Asian powers but plays with a lot of speed and also relies on their shooting. Marcus Douthit is a veteran in international games and has been huge for the Philippines in the past. If they could capitalize playing at home they are no doubt an easy picking to win their group.

Jordan
Jordan is a shell of its old self. Although still flashing some signs of brilliance, they are far from the dominant team they were that stunned Iran and won it all in Wuhan. They struggled in the recent Jones Cup with a 2-5 record but still boast of a tall front court. If they could capitalize with their size, headed by naturalized Jimmy Baxter, they could ones again go far in this tourney.

i believe so. They can either win it by 40 or by 60 so it;s pretty much out there. Malaysia hasn't really taken a huge step into their basketball program so it's a given that they be made dog this much against a team that has been a staple in international competitions.

Group B

Japan
This group got a big break from Lebanon's suspension so it's a matter of either Japan or Qatar to easily win this group. Japan is slowly getting there and taking the right steps into being a contender. Japan naturalized center JR Henderson, an athletic big who provides a much needed leadership and court savvy. They are composed of shooters and slashers but doesn't have that much size. They will have to do with a fast rotation and movement in the offensive end. Japan will have to do a lot on the rebounding battle as they did poorly in Jones Cup.

Qatar
Qatar got a lot of size and will be fielding former Wizard's forward Jarvis Hayes. They play to their size and have decent shooting range. They are coached by prolific American mentor Tom Wisman who has been with the team for a four years now. IMO, I think they pull a fast one over Japan which makes the +105(bet365) to win the group not a bad deal.

Group D

Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan is pretty much like Qatar. A tall team with decent outside shooting. They were out of the international competitions for 4-years now but looks primed to compete well based on their tune up against the Philippines. Bannering the Kazakh team is center Ponomarev who can play stretch 5 with his range. They force a lot of mismatches and capitalize well on that. Kazakhstan plays decent defense and rebounds well. Outside India, Bahrain and Thailand doesn't offer much of a competition.
