If you watched Crosby more you would see that he has scored at least 3 goals while being dragged down by a defender. they are both great players but OV sits at the red line and wait's for everyone to do the dirty work for him, then he snipes goals. Crosby skates back and plays a much better complete hockey game. his team sucks besides malkin there is no one. he playes with dupuis and fedotenko maybe kennedy, OV playes with backstrom and semin 2 great players add maybe the best D-man in the leaugue (mike green). And if you think crosby is a bitch your an idiot he takes way more crap then OV if you touch OV you go to the box yet he can run around and hit people threw the boards the leauge needs to wake up, and start calling things on guys that hit and slash crosby he is suposed to be the next thing and they don't protect him at all. watch him play you will see he gets draged down all the time and there are no calls i would bitch too if i was him.
Everyone loves a goal scorer if crosby went out and scored 70 goals next year everyone would be saying crosby is the better player.

I take crosby hands down he is 2 years younger and way more complete.

I'm sure the guy did something to him to deserve that it's not like it was a goon doing that it was Crosby. Keep hating on him he only has the same amount of points as OV  playing with 2 bums all year.

Maclean didn't do a thing. it was pathetic on Crosby's part. Things like this are what makes A.O better. Refer to my first post in this thread.

I don't want to hear anymore of this "Ovechkin is the best player in the NHL" nonsense from now on. He almost lost them the series.

He was absolutely terrible in 4 of the 7 games. He was a selfish hog. The guy was bombing shots from everywhere with no thought of passing the puck. He probably had 50 shots in the series and another 50 bad ones that were blocked and 50 more that missed the net.

He took shifts that seemed a minute and 30 seconds all in an effort to shoot the puck from 50 feet again. Even when there was a chance for a 3 on 2 or 2 on 2 developing for Washington, this guy was so focused on himself he didn't even look at his man streaking in and actually cut back into a position so HE could shoot from the point which resulted in his man being offsides (this happened multiple times in the series). And what was that crap in the 3rd period of game 7? A little tap and he flails his arms in the air looking at the ref for a call while the Rangers take the puck and break the other way?

If he plays like this in the next round Washington has no chance. He can put up all the regular season numbers he wants but that was a terrible performance in that series. This kid has a lot of growing up to do if he really wants to be a winner.

People need to put in perspective the Sid & Geno played the whole seaon with the likes of Dupuis, Cooke, Satan, Fedetenko, Sykora, and lately Kunitz and Guerin for their 5 vs 5 hockey.

How many other team's are these wingers's playing on the second line, let alone a top line?  None that are in the playoffs.

The addition of Kunitz and Guerin have improved their line combination's greatly by enabling Cooke and Dupois to be used in the roles that they fit best, which improve the overall team.  They are not top line players other than a short term fill in for injury.

Give me an all around playmaking forward that plays both ends of the ice hard anyday.  To answer this question proposed... I will take Sid over Ovie anyday.

Who was the best player this season?  Answer would be Malkin.

That so-called "fight" has to be one of the biggest jokes of all time. Cindy doesn't even manage to land a single punch - all he's doing is jerking Bret McLean's sweater around! And the best part is the expression on McLean's face afterwards: "What the hell was that? Was that supposed to be a fight?"

If you were making a team right now and you had the first overall draft pick you guys would take Ovechkin????

Everybody (including teammates) hated Crosby when he came into the league cause he was so over-hyped. In his rookie season he would get roughed up and smacked around and not 1 player on the Penguins would help him out because he lived with Mario and was the media darling.

Nobody I mean nobody has taken the punishment Crosby has in the last few years that's why he is always complaining. I like both players but Crosby is by far the better player and that includes Malkin. Ovechkin makes nobody around him better, he is always running at players and if it was anybody else would have 3 penalties a game. Imagine Brashear made those hits lol he wouldn't make the ice. He jumps when he hits (penalty) and he also takes 6 obvious strides before hitting  someone (another penalty). OV is the much more talented goal scorer but that's about it. Not many fans said Bure was the best player in the league when he scored 60 goals and Ovechkin is the same just more aggressive.

 2 different players, The dynamics of their games are completley opposite  therefore:  no reason compare each other IMHO 
 Lets see if either one of them make Key mistakes..

i didn't read the entire thread, so maybe the comparison has been already made, but to me it's the same argument as lebron vs kobe
 
lebron and crosby play a more well-rounded team game
 
kobe and ovechkin are the best pure scorers in their sports, but haven't always made everyone else around them better
 
i'd take lebron and crosby in a fucking second

put it this way. take all the players off the ice. and put them 1 on 1 versus each other. ovechkin would use crosby as a pilon.

I think Ovechkin established himself this year as the best player, but hockey is such a team sport.  Crosby works well with his teammates and that is part of the reason he is playing for the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row.  But this argument is like asking if you would rather have Barry Bonds or Derek Jeter. Well you want both, of course!  One guy is a phenomenal player but it remains to be seen if he makes his team as good as he is himself. 
 
I bet almost every coach would take Lidstrom over either guy, nobody in the league makes their team better.
