My opinion is that this one game wild card playoff thing is silly.  In this exact case - where they have the same record - fine.

But how can STL beat ATL in one game and end ATL season and move on?  You play 162 games and finish 7 games ahead - and get knocked out in 1 game?  Shouldnt STL have to beat ATL 7 games or something?

Baseball is ridiculous to me - as a sport - taking wagering out totally.  You play 162 games only to get in to the playoffs where everyone starts over - and is basically a lottery.  Get hot, and 162 games mean nothing.  We have seen it over and over.  And this wild card thing just perpetuates that concept even further.

Just my opinion....  GL with all the wagers.

What you're missing, my friend, is that very few teams make it into the playoffs compared to other sports.  People complain about the long season, 162 games is absurd, but when the chase to be 'elite' enough to earn a playoff spot is so competitive, you can't take many of those 162 games off.  It's a long, long season and it takes a lot to make the playoffs.  You do it just to have a shot, and now yes it does come down to a much shorter, but imo long enough, battle for the championship.

Love baseball.

LOVE IT.

I think that if you gave it a try you would really fall in love with this game.

I guess my response is a little bit off of the point.  The point is a 1-game playoff in this spot is absurd, and you are right.


Fortunately, the better team will win.  HIYooowayyooo HIYooowayyooo the Shaman sees Kris Medlen throwing a 3-hit gem, Braves win 3-1.

Yu will lose in my opinion.  He has not exactly set the league on fire.  If Ranger bats come alive, they will be fine, if not you will have a problem.  Atlanta should take care of St. L., kinda like a payback for last year.  Det. Will be tough.  NYY also.  CN versus Sf will the toughest  series to me.

I wrote a long write up on Soccer in your column and the things that I see wrong with it.
In baseball, I am a traditionalist. I am still against interleague play and the DH.
I totally agree with you on the playoffs, that said, it will not change as the powers that be are making 

That is all they care about, not the integrity of the game.
