Shows I've seen in 2011 so far:

Opeth
Chimaira
Slayer
Hatebreed (again on Nov 25th w/All That Remains)
The Black Dahlia Murder
All Shall Perish
Between The Buried and Me (Dec 6th)
Mastodon
A Perfect Circle (I know, not heavy, but I'm a big MJK fan)
Pretty Lights (Also very far from what I'm into but drugs can do crazy things to a person)

Also attended this past summers All Good Festival and I haven't missed a Mayhem Fest since its birth.

I'm sure i'm forgetting a few as well...

Will someone talk to me about heavy music?  I've been trying to check out stuff that is alot less main stream lately.  Volumes, Born of Osiris, Tesseract, Impending Doom, etc...  Always open to new suggestions.

\m/

[/Quotei've got over 200 gigs of 'heavy' music, been listening to metal for over 20 years. wouldn't know where or what band to start with. all time fav i would have to say SLAYER. the rest of the bands you mentioned, i don't like any of em. i'm into way heavier garbage.

Cant stand the pansy bands,, limp biscuit however u spell it, p.o.d adelitas way, puddle of mudd, better known to me as puddle of garbage and of course the most hated band nickelback. God i friggin hate that band...

Pantera was the best.  Slayer 2nd.

Checkout the beginning of the Pantera concert on youtube from Ozzfest 2000.  Incredible.  Hardcore.  Yesterday don't mean garbage.

Misfits "Last Caress"........Metallica is unbelievably talented and interesting....Hetfield is the KING OF KINGS....just a genius musician and Kirk is one of the best lead players ever....that's all i listen to at the gym....Metallica plays fast and clean....no other band does it like them..

Compare these two bands both in 1985.
 Pantera  vs  Slayer

Both around the same time.... one band was trying to find itself, the other was becoming metal godlike.

There isn't any point in trying to pinpoint a number 1 or number 2 when mentioning these two bands. Slayer is in its own category while Pantera was busy copycatting until they found their true sound... which in itself was groundbreaking, but, it took a lot of tinkering with the engine before something worthwhile plopped out. Slayer is unique because of its band members... all of them. Pantera was unique because of Darrell.

Pantera in 1988  vs  Slayer in 1988

They're so different it's pointless to mention them in the same sentence. So, STOP!

metalbill brought the heat,  I see.  Barge to Hell, nice.  How about the other one, 70,000 Tons?

Anybody checking out Summer Slaughter this summer?  Mayhem fest maybe?  Both for me but I'm more excited about the Hatebreed/Whitechapel/All Shall Perish tour.
