#1 Posted: 6/19/2012 4:58:17 PM today england vs Ukraine those 2 teams should be tied 1-1, 2nd half Ukraine scored but The goal-line official couldn't advise the referee to give it, soccer game is no challenge, no review, the outcome of the game depends on referees, that's why soccer is not popular game in America . |

#2 Posted: 6/19/2012 5:05:31 PM Uhmm not to be an fool or anything but the refs in a majority of sports determine the game. To say that soccer is not popular because of your reason is absurd. |

#3 Posted: 6/19/2012 5:24:30 PM Im not a fan of soccer untill its international like this. But that is probably the most stupid reason i have ever heard why people dont like soccer in america. If the home plate umpire blows a call at home and runner scores game over.... He didnt change the game ???? Every official in every sport can alter a game.

#5 Posted: 6/19/2012 5:31:53 PM Not sure about the popular thing.
But it is friggin incredible that we do not put a chip inside the ball. We have had these discussions since the Geoff Hurst goal in 1966 when England won the WC. Now it is 2012 and this garbage has not changed. friggin backward UEFA/FIFA. |

No thanks. American football is nothing but 20 seconds action, time out, commercial break, challenge...one long and tedious set piece situation to me.
Real football is geat because of the flow. |

#7 Posted: 6/19/2012 6:46:49 PM welcome to sports.
every sport has some type of human influence thats not fair. strike zones, ref making fouls based on what they feel is a foul or how they interpret the rule. Nothing has change or will change with sports when it comes to human error but its part of the game and will be for a long time to come.

i would not cry about that missed goal if i was you just because the player was offside right before the goal and the offside was never called, so if they would of call the offside to begin with then the goal that didnt count never would of happened anyway, ukraine draw they dont a |

"Soccer" will never be popular in America because it is a sport that is played by more than just a few countries, meaning that America are highly unlikely to ever be the best at it. Not to be a person, but this is too much to handle for a nation that is highly regarded as being arrogant and considers itself to be the best at everything.

Major League Soccer set an all-time attendance record this season,
drawing 17,872 fans per game. That surpassed the previous mark (17,406)
set in the league's inaugural season in 1996. But more importantly, MLS
is doing so well on the local level that they are drawing more fans per
game than both the NBA and NHL.

And if you happen to be American.. shame on you

#13 Posted: 6/20/2012 12:42:40 AM exactly what dagmen said, all sports can be determined by refs... I have seen basketball games where every play is a foul where it shouldn't be, then I've seen hockey games where goals should have been goals or shouldn't have been... even with video replays they still screw up calls, and all the time in baseball umps make terrible calls, basically you can say all sports are unfair
And you probably don't know this but England scored a goal in a world cup game in 2010 where it should have counted but it didn't and I'm almost positive it was an elimination game, in other words calls will go against a team some days and with you on other days... it really evens itself out when it's all said and done

Agreed, Hockey is tough because of the kick in rule. No matter game speed or video its still judgement on the referees part or his superiors in Toronto to make THEIR judgement.

Dude, cmon now, you can't be serious. I mean I too can sometimes be annoyed by the overly patriotic view by Americans and their idea they are the best in the world in everything they do, but they kinda are in a lot of things. Did you, like somebody mentioned already, forget how many medals the US gets every olympics when making your arguement. And it's not that swimming and athletics are low profile sports, every country has runners.
Also, try to look at basketball, alot of countries play it just like soccer, yet America owns. Yes they had more history playing the game, Europe is still developing, but still they also are just better at it. So it's not like they are only good at sports noone other plays. I think they just are bored with soccer because they are used to more goals (baskets, TD's in their sports). Also they have a shot clock which makes sure they attack, while in soccer a team can control the ball for 70 mins and just lay in defence. |
