Matusz got the stuffing smacked out of him last 2 starts vs yankees, not even getting out of the 2nd in the most recent. hes walked 2-3 yanks in all his starts....walks always come back to bite you in the behind, especially against NY. Nova was a hidden gem for the yankees last year and there will be ALOT of pinstripes in the stands too.....

the value will probably be there if you wait till tomorrow but the yanks starting the year 0-4 doesnt sound extremely likely imo.

BOL if you have the stomach for it

Rookie mistake. 0-3 didn't sound likely to you either I'm sure. What do you think is going to happen? The Yanks are going to play harder today then yesterday?

Nova was one of the worst pitchers in Spring Training this year, to his own admittance, I don't see it changing here.

Matusz pitched well in spring training, If you take away his first start he had a sub 2.80 ERA.

The kid showed he can pitch in the bigs his first year and a half up.

If you are even mentioning Matusz performance last year... you are unaware of what Matusz went through last year.

It all started in spring training and the off season. He did not prepare and get into as good as shape after finishing the 2010 season on an absolute tear and flashing his abilities to be a #2 type starter in the big leagues.

As a result he ended up suffering an injury (the injury also happened to be an injury that can stick around). The Orioles decided to rush Matusz back earlier than they should have. The combination of not being in peak shape along with being rushed back was catastrophic. Matusz instead on being in the 91-94 range with his fastball was instead sitting in the 86-91 range. That did not allow enough separation in the speed between his fastball and change. His injury also did not allow for Matusz to repeat his mechanics properly which led to him not locating well at all (when his whole college and early pro career showed he was always able to locate his pitches). He even admitted he was not mentally or physically prepared for the season at the end of last year.

Now that is just the Matusz part. The other part is what the Orioles did to Matusz. Conners was hired and brought in for pitching coach. He decided to tweak Matusz' mechanics and windup. Matusz was extremely upset about this, during spring training, and did not understand why they were changing his mechanics when they had worked for him his whole baseball life. He went along with it at first btu when the results were bad along with throwing with less velocity and worse command/control he was fed up. Connors not only screwed up Matusz for other Orioles pitchers. The end result was Connors was fired and relieved of his duties midway through the season.

This year Matusz is in great shape and was back to throwing 91-94 in the spring. His secondaries were also good along with control. The result was Matusz had a great spring and he looks like the Matusz from 2010.

didn't mean any disrespect. what i said had nothing really to do with starting the year with 4 str losses...more so that last year he got shelled in both starts against the yanks. unfortunately i didnt pay any attention to orioles S.training numbers. i was just throwing out an opinion. obviously, my mistake.

My response was about why Matusz was shelled against the Yankees and the entire MLB last year.

It was not Matusz pitching. A lot was going on wit him last year that led to those results after having a fantastic finish to the 2010 season

If there was concerns for one of the starting pitchers, It should far-and-away be for Nova. He is this years version of Phil Hughes. No-doubt-about-it in my mind!

Worth a shot at that price, but Yankee bats have to wake up soon.
