UFC 9-7-0

Bellator 1-0-0

Strikeforce 1-0-0

Leans:  9-2

4th installment of the UFC on Fox.  I'm looking forward to the card a lot.  The main event is a fight I talked about specifically right before Shogun made his UFC debut.  The big lights are shining  bright, network tv, these guys should show up and give us a nice stand-up display.

Manny "The Anvil" -170 (2U)-  Home turf advantage for Manvel coming into this fight against Omigawa who has to make the travel across the pond.  Gamburyan has looked strong at 145.  His only loss to Jose Aldo.  I like the pace he keeps and think he'll be able to grind his way to a W in this one.

Mike Swick -210 (4U)-  People hate the fact that Swick has been off for over 2 years, ring rust, blah bah.  I love the fact that he took his time coming back, making sure everything was right again.  I think when you train at AKA and are surrounded by killers everyday, the ring rust factor lessens.  Swick is obviously more talented and explosive than DJ.  A Mike Swick that's RIGHT overwhelms DJ at his best.  I think Swick is right for this fight.

Ryan Bader +285 (2U)-  The Machida support is immense.  Most writing Bader off in this thing.  At +285, sign me up.  I think Bader will win this fight.  He is a huge 205'er, crazy good wrestling, feeling good about himself coming into this fight.  Machida has arguably lost 4 out of his last 5 fights (getting gift decision in 1st Shogun fight).  Bader is a beast and I think he is going to be able to impose his game a little bit better than Machida tomorrow night.

Brandon Vera+300 (2U)- Look, fact of the matter is, Brandon Vera IS still one of the most talented guys in the game.  Go ahead, laugh.  The guy has all the tools.  He just has to let it ride!  His stage is set.  If he doesn't feel the need let it all hang out in a main event fight against Shogun on Fox....that could possibly place him in a title match.....well.

I think the Henderson fight took something out of Shogun.  You don't go through wars like that without any long term effects.  I expect Vera to seize the moment and tap into that skill set that allowed him to just destroy guys back when he was the talk of the town.

Flame away and BOL!

I can't remember the last time I heard a fighter or trainer admit that they will be rusty before this fight.

Javier Mendez (head guy at AKA) admitted Swick will be rusty.  "...it's obvious we can't say there won't be any ring rust, that's bull, there's gonna be some ring rust."

I expect Swick to win, but not the thing you like to hear from his trainer.

BOL on your plays!

I like the first 2, not so much the last 2.

I was leaning Bader at one point, but I rewatched the Jones - Bader fight and reached the conclusion that Bader will not be able to take Machida down, won't be able to gauge proper distance in the standup, and will not be able to protect himself from getting blasted over and over again.  I can see why you are tempted to play Bader based on the odds, since I agree, they seem a little out of whack, but I think Machida is the play here.

MMA has evolved so much since Vera was once relevant, and unfortunately, he has not been able to adapt with it.  While I agree with practically everything you said about Rua, the bottom line is that Vera does not like to get hit, and backs off like a little school girl when he gets pressured.  Unless Rua sits back and lets Vera kick him to death, I really do not see how Vera is going to be able to pull this off.

Yea, the Bader play makes me a little nervy.  He's been good to me in the past though and I think there are avenues for victory for sure.  The main one is to make it a boring clinch fest against the cage and score with takedowns late in the rounds.  You're absolutely right about gauging the distance and how important that is.  If this gets to his head early in the fight, he may be f*cked.

As far as Vera, this guys has disappointed me probably more than anyone in the UFC.  Not just from a betting standpoint either.  As I stated above, the guys skill set is as solid as anyone in the division (or any division for that matter).  Great muay thai skills, solid wrestling, good submission game.......he just needs to let go!!!!!  It frustrates the piss out of me when he sits back for a whole round and then goes ape garbage when he hears the 10 second clacker and starts ripping off all these wicked combinations.

I think he realizes that he is in a position tonight that he doesn't belong in and he needs to bring everything together for this one fight.  Do or die time boys!

BOL!

once vera gets punched in the face hes going to fold up like a $5.00 wal-mart lawn chair.

i still dont know why vera is in this position other than dana giving rua a freebie after the great henderson fight.
