#26 Posted: 11/11/2012 9:40:15 PM I nominate Lady Bird Johnson ..a lifelong advocate for beautifying the nation's cities and highways ("Where flowers bloom, so does hope")
She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian honors.
Believing in the capitalist system her initial $41,000 investment turned into more than $150 million for the LBJ Holding Company..
She was the first president's wife to become a millionaire in her own right....
Last month the United States Postal Service announced the issue of a souvenir Forever stamp sheet honoring Lady Bird Johnson as a tribute to her legacy of beautifying the nation's roadsides, urban parks and trails.
US stamps were also created for first ladies Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison and Eleanor Roosevelt...and Lady Bird Johnson. Good company.. |
