#176 Posted: 11/20/2012 12:04:30 PM Kong,
What if you're a degenerate penny slot player who needs to have a scapegoat (with a beer), for all the things that went wrong in your life?
What's more important: propping up the ego of your worthless existence and getting the alcohol or treating people with respect and dignity?
For most, the choice is easy. For others, well, they're just degenerates, and pro's at that.

#179 Posted: 12/1/2012 4:24:39 AM Man this guy is cluless. We understand that the 1st waitress regardless of tip should never say anything negative to a customer over a tip,but damn on the otherhand did you really need that free beer .If you didnt have a frigin dollar on you (cause its in the penny slots)then you shouldnt be taking that girl away from her making money and ordering a beer in the first place.Of course tips are not mandatory but with wait staff thats how they make a living. In New York I work for a large moving Company,we still get tipped most days when the job is completed ,but I also get paid alot more per hour than the tip is ,if broken down per hour.Where a waitress mite only be getting mini wage or less,so the tips are a as much or more then she makes on her paycheck. You having her get u that lousy watered down draft beer for free is a sellfish ,I dont give a garbage about anyone attitude ,which is why you probably get shitty service even when you do tip. Your the type of guy that would never tip that girl more than a dollar even if you just hit the jackpot while shes serving u your damn beer |

My question is...did that make you feel better about having a bad day? Did you stop and think, maybe she was having a bad day as well? Or did you not think?

After reading this whole thread back to front since I couldn't sleep this really sums it up. yes! A different approach could have been taken an probably the better choice. Some of the comments were a bit pointed, we are all human beings. We make mistakes, let's not try to ll pretend like we have never made a mistake when deciding the proper amount to tip. This thread really needs to be layed to rest |

#185 Posted: 12/14/2012 9:51:40 AM Don't order a beer if you don't have at least a buck to tip. Show some class. It doesn't matter how much you lost. At least cash out at a buck and give the waitress the ticket.
Fukn laughable that someone said they appreciate some change in this economy!
If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to gamble.....

#186 Posted: 12/14/2012 10:03:44 AM Here's a story on some clueless people..... My ex's parents invite us to dinner at a restaurant in a casino that they frequent. More like a cafe. Everything is comped. (only reason they offered, of course) They go on and on, "order anything you want" "get appetizers, main course, dessert". I tell them I'm not that hungry and they say to order anyway and take it home. So bill comes to just short of $200.00. I offer to pay the tip and they say, "No!!!!!" "We got this!" They leave $5.00 on the table. I ask them " what the hell is that?" they say they leave that much all the time and that when she was a waitress she was thrilled to get 5 bucks! Yeah, in 1950.... I left the appropriate tip as we walked out and threw my food in the trash. Waitress probably spit in it. Cheap fuks |

#189 Posted: 12/15/2012 8:16:51 PM To elaborate....... They have been giving these poor girls a 5 dollar tip on a weekly basis...... They think that since the meal is comped that 5 bucks is a f'n treat! Tip the amount as you would have for the amount the bill would have been...

#192 Posted: 12/18/2012 12:22:53 PM Here is an actual poor service story. At the Wynn hotel. It was super bowl sunday when the steelers were playing Arizona. I played a bunch of props for $200 a bet totalling $2k. I sat down and went to order a drink from the waitress. She said because it was so busy I needed a drink coupon to order a drink. Ok I went to the window to get my drink coupons. The man at the window said "you get one drink coupon for every bet of $250. B/C your bets are less than $250 each , you get no drink coupons." I said I just dropeed 2k down and you seriously are going to deny me a coupon to get a drink? He called the floor manager over who backed him up completely. When we sat down the waitress asked us if we got our drink coupons. I told her Apparently my $200 per bet wasn't enough to get drink coupons. She apologized about the policy but she still couldn't take $$$ for drinks other than tips.
We were deciding on where we wanted to now go to watch the game. 5 min later. the floor manager came over to our table and told us that we could no longer sit in the sportsbook if we weren't using the wait staff and walked us to the casino floor.
Overall that was probably the only bad service experience I have ever had in Vegas. Considering the # of times I have been there, that is amazing. I guess that I have been fortunate enough to get hooked up with the good service people.
Ususally when I go into a place I will get the service person's name and the next time we go into a place we ask for that person. It is amazing that when you ask for a person specifically, how well they treat you. I never mind paying a healthy tip for strong service. |

#193 Posted: 12/18/2012 4:54:58 PM Me and girlfriend drove to Vegas, then flew to Colorado for a week for Thanksgiving this year to chill with her family. Whilst there, I proposed. We then flew back to Vegas to stay Friday night before driving home. We stayed at Rio. As we walked up to check in, we noticed the same dude who helped us last time we were in Rio a couple months back. Shockingly he remembered us. I dont see how thats possible, these people see thousands of different faces a week. Anyway we are makin small talk about how our vacation went and my gf says "it was great, we got engaged!" He then makes a phone call, then proceeds to tell me hes giving us a room we'll probly never see again. He was right. Hooked us up with a 50th floor badass suite. I was happy with my comped 1 king bed smoking, but garbage, this was waaaaay better. A comped suite? The next day we let the manager know how awesome he was and left an envelope with 40 bucks in it and a thank you note. Wasnt much but we wanted to show him our appreciation. Best stay in vegas thus far. Harrahs properties have always been nice to thier customers. (And we are only gold, not platinum or diamond) |

Congrats Roger on the engagement etc.As soon as you mentioned the Rio,I hoped it was not going to be a bad story.Glad it wasn't..Rio is home base every year for me NFL opening week and never have a problem there, from check-in to check out.A couple bartenders remember me so I never have to ask for a beer,it's already there..Sportsbook tellers are patient and helpful as well with my small time action.

congrats roger. It is nice to get treated well unexpectedly by a corp as big as Harrah's
I agree that Harrah's properties will treat you the best with unexpected comps and upgrades. I was staying at Harrahs and arrived in town about midnight.I sat down at a bj table and asked the pitboss if he could make me up a new card b/c My old one was worn. Despite playing $25 a hand, thanks to horrible luck with consectutive splits and double downs, I dropped $600 in the time it took him to make the card. He saw the whole sequence and added 2 comps to the all night cafe on the spot for my bad luck run. He obviously didn't have to do that, but I thanked him and took advantage of it as the wife and I were both hungry.
That was a small token of appreciation from the boss but it is the little things like that that go a long way towards building repeat clients. |

#196 Posted: 12/20/2012 12:32:10 AM Use to frequent Vegas often, San Remo days, Luxor, TI, Harrah's, always the best times, but this last trip not sure if it was the sagging economy but people just not friendly in general, alot of edge in that town. I guess the staff at the book or on the floor serving drinks have their days of dealing with obnoxious gambler's and get tired of serving, but shoot it stuck with me ever since. Think why even go back there, I can stuff my face, get drunk and make a bet on the game here at home and buy my beer from a local liquor store that might even smile and say thanks for coming in. In Vegas the staff is entitled, and if you do not meet their expectations you are another tourist stiff. |

That does suck and I would be upset about that as well. One thing I always do before I bet is ask what their drink/comp situation is. |

#200 Posted: 12/30/2012 5:09:24 PM i tip well everywhere i recieve good service, if i dont get good service( and that is usually very rare) i have no problem with leaving and never patronizing the place again. Most service people can "size a person up" and tell by attitude, personality, dress etc. who will be a good patron or who will be a douche. i have noticed at times in the sportsbooks they will have only one or two waitress for zillions of tables, so take it easy on them. |
