This is kind of an ugly looking league this year with the number of coaching changes and early departures from a number of schools.  I see the conference as clearly Memphis’ to lose as they are the most talented team in the conference.  Fighting it out for 2nd I see Marshall & UCF.  Marshall brings in a couple of highly rated jucos this year.  UCF returns a conference POY candidate in Clanton.  I like Houston & UTEP to move up in the conference this year.  I think both have the pieces in place to be competitive, but I they both look to me like they are a year away from really being able to make some noise.

How do you figure Memphis will do nationally?  Do you think they can keep up with the big boys?

pec, I guess I can answer that by saying...I think Pastner is one hell of a recruiter, but I'm not entirely sold on his coaching abilities.  There were a few games his team should have won last year, in particular, that I believe they lost because of the coaching.  I believe they have the talent there to keep up, but he's yet to show me anything that would lead me believe he can guide a team to a Final Four.   He's young yet and with the talent he can recruit it allows him time to "learn on the job" in that conference.

pec, as far as nationally,  they only have one true road game in out of conference play at Tennessee right before the conference schedule starts.   I think they mow through the conference and end up within the top 10, top 15 at year's end.  The only bumps in the road in conference play for them are likely the road games at UCF & Marshall...they may lose one or both of them.

Actually...thinking about it a bit more...somewhere between 15-25 is more likely where they will land...top 10 probably not.
