Im 30 years old, single with no kids. I current appraise real estate and do not a college degree. I use to know a hand full of people in LV but they have moved out of the area for various reasons so i cant go to them for information. For the locals who visit the forum, how difficult is it to find a decent stable job out there right now? Thoughts/Opinions?

If though, you can line up a job before you move, there are several factors you should consider. Las Vegas isn't exactly a cultural mecca. Local music consists of "The Killers" and that is about all. The bar scene sucks as most patrons there are too involved playing Jacks or Better to even notice you. On top of that, LV is full of ignorant people. Don't expect to have many philosophical conversations. The dating scene is very difficult to navigate. I am not kidding when I say that the only girls that are trustworthy are the Mormon chicks. Last but not least- if you value having four seasons, LV is definitely not for you. There are a few positives though. Sportsbetting is legal! There is no hassle in trying to collect from a local or withdrawing from an online book: you can collect right after your game is over. LV is the biggest football town in the country. Everyone , even Grandmas, get down in one or another in the falltime. Another benefit is having the convenience of a 24 hour town. If you want a beer and hot wings at 3am, that is no problem. I spent 7 years in LV, so I speak from experience. If you are looking to have fun for a couple of years, then maybe a move is in order. Just make sure to leave after you've gotten it out of your system. On the other hand, if you are looking for a career and to meet a nice girl to settle down with, you might want to look somewhere else.

Lots more work with less pay is not for me I know what im worth. Time for something different. Real Estate and the gambling industry is what I do and what I know. The gambling industry is what i do best so I would love to get involved with that. I consider myself sharp and pick up on everything quickly so im open to any type of job as long as i feel part of the company. I doubt I will be able to find a job that will pay higher or around what I make now so a pay cut will probably take place but thats okay. I love LV just like everyone in the forum but Im not moving there to get it out of my system. I enjoy the place, enjoy the people for the most part and enjoy the many great things the area has to offer. I have been gambling on sports successfully for three years and can cantrol it. I drink on occasion and dont do drugs. I love the heat, 24/7 action and fine dining LV offers.

Wiseguy- good luck in your decision. I can say that I worked in a locals casino in LV for nearly 5 years, and it is by no means glamorous. It was indeed fun at first, but the novelty wore out after about a year. You will see the worst side of people on a nightly basis. Just know that going into it.

Im aware of the high unemployment rate and that is no doubt a concern for me and a big one. Housing doesnt effect me as I would rent and crime rate also wouldnt affect me based on where i would be living and hanging out. Mental health, Education and community service are non factors. I dont intend on getting married and/or raising a family here and my education is complete. I really do appreciate the response.

There are a few good local bands, but generally play to empty houses because there's just too much other garbage to do, I guess. And there are no real happy hours, as mentioned, people are too busy playing video poker and smoking cigarettes. And yes, Las Vegas is not an intellectual mecca...that's for sure. I do miss having a good conversation after work at a good happy hour. Doesn't happen much here in Vegas. However, if you look around, there are some decent bars. The local chain video poker/sports bars suck behind...and there are a million of them across the valley. So, finding a good place can take a while, and sometimes it's still hit or miss. Vegas is what it is. Because of the weather, the economic boom over the last few decades, the easy, high paying jobs that don't require a lot of training or education, etc...because of all of that, you get a lot of freakin' morons...male and female. Which equates to high crime, bad drivers and the like. As far as the economic meltdown...you got to remember that Las Vegas was constantly growing for decades, then all of a sudden it stopped. With that growth came tons of jobs and money..to the city, the county and of course the people working those jobs. garbage hit the fan, the money is gone and so are those types of jobs. But there are jobs, just like any other normal city in today's economy. Las Vegas has finally come back down to reality, in my opinion. cont.....

To be honest, that line of work is pretty shitty right now for anyone that isn't really established. And that's because during the boom, there were thousands of these people, and not all of them have moved, they're still here...out of work. But on a more positive note....lol....there is tons of stuff do here. The ethnicity of the city is amazing. A true melting pot of cultures, which means great food, real, authentic food. 20 minutes outside in any direction, you're in the Mojave Desert alone...which is cool for biking, hiking, etc. Mt Charleston, Lake Mead, all that garbage is just minutes away. Housing is super cheap right now, so you can get something nice, in a nice part of town for cheap - rent or buy. I say, if you're willing to bust your hump, work a few jobs, and like here, you can make it. It certainly is not for everyone. You've also got to remember that a lot of people moved here because they want to be here, so it's not all doom and gloom. Since day one (I've been here about 4 years), I spend my lunch hours at the sportsbook, and weekends playing golf, poker or riding my motorcycle across the desert - year round. It ain't all bad. Just my two cents.
